Canadian Fires

Postby Kurt » Wed Jun 07, 2023 12:54 pm

It smells like a fire here in NYC which is a bit unsettling. especially to 9/11 era people like me who associate "Smoke In The City = Bad Stuff Happening"

I have not smoked a cig in years and my smokers hack has returned.

Honest, I kind of dig the smell. We did a bunch of evacuations in Canada last summer, lots of thick smoke. Here's a few shots from last season in Chile:

We bailed on a few when it got too thick though

That's the color our sky is here. And yes, it smells like a campfire, which does smell good in the context of a controlled fire where I cook and drink beer and bullshit with my friends.

But I can smell it in my basement now and I can tell the air quality has dropped to Delhi levels.

I bet this is making for some awesome looking sunrises to the west of us though.

NYC Antifa is out distributing N-95 masks in poor areas. Ass Clown Mayor Adams is not doing shit.

This is one of those events where where the smoke clears there is gonna be dead people.

My asthma is coming back. Have not had an attack since November 2001. (When The EPA told us it was safe to return to Ground Zero even though it wasn't)

Now the Democratic Socialists are distributing N-95 masks.

The City of New York is still not distributing masks, even though we had stockpiled them for COVID.

Right now most of NYC is "Hazardous" with 301 to 500 ppm

Not quite sure what happens above 500. I have been wearing an N-95 mask indoors today. So this is pretty bad.

The mohawk has grown out to just be "Long on top, shorter on the sides" which seems to be the mullett of my age group of self hair cutters.

shaved it off as a teen once, missed some spots.
I know a couple of women that do my hair, I don't let many people get that close to me with sharp and/or pointy metal objects. Tbh there is some primal grooming feeling good vibe in it.

I never got one of the fancy masks.

Nah, as a young kid we used to head down to see relatives in Astoria. Was last there in 2014 after a long gap and was impressed how clean and safe it had become.

I am staying out in the boonies (Middletown) and suspecting that is remote for you, but planning on heading into Manhattan one day (likely Thursday) and would head in late morning and would probably need to leave early evening. Anything work for you?

Working 8:30 to 4:30 from home. I am in Brooklyn on the 2 and 5 line so if you are around in Manhattan after 5 we could meet or if you want to trek to Brooklyn we will have beer, wine and I can grill something.

Catching a train out of Penn Station, I'll check the schedule again but it may be 7 PM, if there is any place that works for you.
