Patki Earthquake numbers dead JUMP

Maj. Gen. Shaukat Sultan, the official spokesman for Pakistani President Perez Musharraf and the
Armed Forces, just said on CNN that 18,000 people are dead and 41,000 are injured in the quake.
CNN asked him if he meant "hundred" rather than thousand." He said no and said it again.


Before this, CNN wires said 1300 dead.

I just babysat a cargo load of aid from the UAE into Islamabad, ostensibly to help with the logistics, but just to have a quick look. (not getting any time to actually put my mass-casualty expertise into practice, but thats par for the course). goit to see a couple of US Chinooks come sweeping into the airport - all very impressive. We ferried a pack of journos out of the place, who had some seriosuly gruesome pics amongst them. They also had some pretty hardcore descriptions - none of them beleive the casualty figures are anywhere near the published limit - they are much more.

Only fools trust government death toll, large numbers make the government look like fools, so they always try to make a number
that people find resonable but much lower than the real ones...
