Buzkashi, Afghan horses

Can anyone enlighten us about how to get involved in a game of buzkashi? I'd like to go to Afghanistan (probably Mazar) next year and get in on a game. I'm an experienced rider, but for work, not play. I'd love to meet some serious buzkashi players.

And more generally on the topic of Afghan horses, does anyone know what kind of horses the US Special Forces were riding in northern Afghanistan in 2001? I wonder, because those beasts must have been local, and I don't know where in Afghanistan you'd find an animal robust enough to carry a modern soldier and his equipment into battle.
