2Charlie - hey man! sorry to hear you got problems - I had the same stuff - but I knew where it came from - get a program online at www.grisoft.com - its called AVG - you can download it for free - and it works well - stopped some of those trojans horses coming into the web mails - even will tell you the file name and where it is - make sure you are able to view hidden files - I can show you how to do that - easy if you have 2000 or XP. Let me know if that helps out - if not - then redo your disk using the FDISK and reformat = off course after you take out whatever files you need. No guarantee it will get rid of the pest - but at least its the least expensive way to do things. Otherwise - get a new hardrive~! and insure you install a firewall or antivirus program. Good firewall I used was zonealarm.com comes free for a trial version - but its a pain - you have to get it to allow each and every instances that tries to break in to your systems and unless you are knowledgeable on where its coming from - you may not get stuff that are updating your system - but at least try that!. Let me know if you need anything else!. Dim could also give you some more info - Later dude. So sayeth the Sarge!.

Get yourself only alpha numeric passwords for everything.

Next teach the gf to find out what TCP port her shareware program uses and just have her disable that instead of the whole firewall.

Next..software firewalls are OK..except for the ones for Windows. Mac OSX, FreeBSD and Linux have the only softwareones (built into teh kernel of the OS) that are worth anything.

With Windows get a D-Link router. They have a good chipset and are easy to use. Next bet is a Linksys...mroe work to configure but it can give you more information (get the wireless models in case you upgrade..disable the wireless when not in use).

Everyone should have an external firewall appliance.

Firewalls!

Good ideal on the Lynksys modem - better yet - instead of spending a whole lot of money and time on trying to figure out which TCP Port you are using - way to savvy for most - get another browser that is not as wide open as IE (Internet Explorer). Myself I use Mozzilla and its serve me well - not as easy to get in as with IE which is full of holes!. And you know that the primary target is always and will be IE - because they are the largest - Netscape is fine to use - but I found that Mozzilla is by far the best - easy to use - may be a little large - but its has definitive advantages. Go to mozzilla.org and download the free version. You will not regret it!. BTW Mozzilla is based on Netscapes version but with a whole lot of good stuff - and its way faster than IE by any means. Let me know if that helps!.

So sayeth the Sarge!.

is a program called John the ripper.

put a md5 hash of what you think is a good password, and JTR will crack it in less than a minute if it is a word or a combination of two or three words...it does a dictionary attack and you can see how fast desktop PC´s realy are when you run it.

Refer all tech Questions to Sarge while I am away.

Passion is necessity. It is not diligence, or simply being committed to a goal. Passion consumes you while you chase down your goal. Passion should always be your natural state of mind for it is what sparks momentum and sets the pace.

See, that's the problem with all that internet porn...

Well, I'd say go through a remailer. I used to have one, but I think it shut down. You would give the remailer's address, and it would forward it to your address. Works rather well, if you don't want people to know your actual address.
When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? To surrender dreams - -this may be madness; to seek treasure where there is only trash. Too much sanity may be madness! But maddest of all - -to see life as it is and not as it should be.
