Do you think the resolution to suspend the election in the event of a terrorist attack will pass Congress?

An election is a moral horror, as bad as a battle except for the blood; a mud bath for every soul concerned in it.
- George Bernard Shaw

There is no excitement anywhere in the world, short of war, to match the excitement of the American presidential campaign.
- Theodore White

Votes should be weighed not counted.
- Johann Friedrich Von Schiller

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. counterterrorism officials are looking at an emergency proposal on the legal steps needed to postpone the November presidential election in case of an attack by al Qaeda, Newsweek reported on Sunday. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge warned last week that Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network may attack within the United States to try to disrupt the election.

The magazine cited unnamed sources who told it that the Department of Homeland Security asked the Justice Department last week to review what legal steps would be needed to delay the election if an attack occurred on the day before or the day of the election. The department was asked to review a letter to Ridge from DeForest Soaries, who is the chairman of the new U.S. Election Assistance Commission, the magazine said.

The commission was created in 2002 to provide funds to the states to the replace punch card voting systems and provide other assistance in conducting federal elections. In his letter, Soaries pointed out that while New York’s Board of Elections suspended primary elections in New York on the day of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, “the federal government has no agency that has the statutory authority to cancel and reschedule a federal election.” Soaries wants Ridge to ask Congress to pass legislation giving the government such power, Newsweek reported in its latest issue that hits the newsstands on Monday.

Homeland Security Department spokesman Brian Rochrkasse said the agency is reviewing the matter “to determine what steps need to be taken to secure the election.”

Passion is necessity. It is not diligence, or simply being committed to a goal. Passion consumes you while you chase down your goal. Passion should always be your natural state of mind for it is what sparks momentum and sets the pace.

Is everyone really so blind? Has anyone read 1984? Oceania? Constant fear and intimidation by a far away, ghost-like enemy? I will not, under any curcumstances, be scared into NOT VOTING which is exactly what these bastards want. And it's exactly what the guys behind the freakin' curtain want. This is getting ridiculous people. Take a fucking stand, let's get our country back. No more fucking Patriot Acts. No more kneeling to the will of terrorists who are responsible for billions of dollars of government spending and revenue, and the deaths of thousands. If Bush OR Kerry decides to pass another Patriot Act our freedoms are no more, and the America we once knew ceases to be. Think people...don't just assume that our government isn't fucking us in the ass. Because EVERYTIME our government needs to pass a bill, or to get funding to kill foreigners abroad these monsters attack us, and they manage to beat us into submission, not by killing us, but by killing our freedoms.

Watch this, I’ve been waiting for an incident like this. Some of the best street theatre you will ever see will be played out in the next few months. Bush has been looking for an excuse to stop people from scrutinizing 9/11 and Iraq and this is it, or rather the start of it. He will attempt to usurp the election process, cause confusion and intimidate political rivals. If Kerry has any huevos, he should stand up and say “how can we abide a president who can not keep us safe on election day?” If AQ pulls something off (or “appears” to) look for patriot act 3, 4, son of patriot act, return to patriot act, and so on. W will base his campaign of the “don’t switch horses in midstream” platform and sleaze his way in again. Hes done it before. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. You might as well, remember, under patriot act: reloaded, any opposition to our leader, even in thought is an act of terrorism. “if we don’t follow our leaders blindly, how can we remain free” Frank Burns – M*A*S*H

i dont know what's more fucked up, the fact this thing is being proposed, or the fact that it's getting about zero media attention, even by the 'liberal' media conspiracy.
when they ask how you feeling
you tell em you feeling like something important died screaming
you tell em you feeling like something even more important arrived breathing
something you should probably try feeding
