Boy, they could have fooled me. I guess I should go run out and pick up the latest Chomsky book on linguistics. Ohhhhh......Ahhhhhhh.....

Jee, I hope I could find one, in that sea of leftist crap that he keeps pumping out? Like I said, if he has a place on the list, then you might as well put Horowitz up there too.

It would make sense if you knew what a linguist is. Rushdie and Vollman are writers, not linguists.

How do you define an intellectual? According to the Khmer Rouge, it's anyone wearing glasses. According to Billy Connolly, it's anyone who can hear the William Tell overture and not think of the Lone Ranger.
If there is going to be a list of spectacle wearing music snobs, it's probably got to be taken with a pinch of salt.

an intellectual is someone who can challenge your views and possibly enhance them without making you feeling stupid.

Then why the hell isn't Eric Cartman at the top of that list.

If that's the definition of intellectual, then color me guilty. That overture reminds me of the most gawdawful singing I've ever heard: Chris Merritt as Arnold Melcthal @ San Francisco Opera in 1997.

You called that right, most of the people on that list probably think they deserve to be on it.

Er, it's a Prospect and Foreign Policy list, reported by the Guardian as a news story.

Here's the Prospect story about the voting:

And here's the list with previous rankings (from November 2005), which is a bit more interesting:

(Chomsky was number 1 then, as he often is in these things: an intellectual rated by the world, hated at home. I wonder why?)
Shes never interfered with me. I have no complaints about her.
Same here.
Mega ditto.
I met her once and I found her to be a nice lady. Not kookey in any way.
Penta has always been gracious, kind and very sane in all my interactions with her.

Having been in similar situations, it's probably because he left the toilet seat up.
