I'm sure he is. But he's told us too much about where he's been. ;)
Shes never interfered with me. I have no complaints about her.
Same here.
Mega ditto.
I met her once and I found her to be a nice lady. Not kookey in any way.
Penta has always been gracious, kind and very sane in all my interactions with her.

No, I'm not going to London just to buy single malt, just passing through. I told a friend of mine I'd pick him up a bottle. $600 would go along way on a mortgage payment or a trip so I'd never spend that on booze (maybe $100). I am a 15 minute drive from NY state where booze is about 20-30% cheaper (50% for beer) so that's where I'd go to pick up cheep booze.

Talisker. JW Black is fine - saw a JW "Double Black" being advertised in Dubai Duty Free, but could not buy it as I was Q8 bound.

I like Grappa, too, but it's not available everywhere.

If you like Grappa you will actually prefer Romanian Polinka / Tuica and Bulgarian Rakia over Italian grappa.

But:

You gotta make sure you get the kind the locals drink in those places or you might be really dissapointed.

Stay away from Slivovitz in the Balkans but Slivova Rakia from Bulgaria can be heaven (plum brandy)

Thanks, I bet the Romanian and Bulgarian stuff is a lot cheaper than grappa, which is obscene in the USA, $27 even for Grappa Julia.

grappa Julia is only useful to add to pancake batter.

I found a liquor store on 181st street in Manhattan where the owner travels to Scotland and tries stuff before he gets it for the store. Too bad I just enter there and never bother to look at the name of the place.

But anyway.

Tomitou 10 year old. Good price, decent whisky, but I will never buy it again. It is like when someone plays Black Sabbath at a party...I don't mind but I do not seek it out. The Scotch guy told me it is one of the main sellers to Johnny Walker for their blends, so perhaps just getting JW is a better deal.

Laphroiag Quarter Cask...More wood, less peat. I like it better than the regular stuff but it costs about $10 more.

Glen Rothes Signatory 15 year old. A total bargain at about $65 a bottle. In some ways it is similar to The McCallan but it seems to "stay with you" long after you swallowed it. I am drinking it right now.

Mortlach Rare Old 15 year by Gordon & MacPhail. About $100 a bottle so I have only had it once. Left me wanting to have a glass after every day of work for the past two weeks.

That's one of the better scotch reviews I've read.

I drink bourbon with ice but rarely scotch.

I do like a splash of soda..sometimes...but only the kind with sodium in it. The bubbles cause it to smell nice and the sodium can enhance the flavor.

Ah, might have to try the soda thing. Been mostly having Maker's Mark on ice lately.

I had Maker's Mark last weekend (on ice) . It goes excellent with a hoppy beer chaser. (Sierra Nevada Pale Ale)
