Because it is interesting to study the sociopathic personality, albeit usually in hindsight.
There are people who aren't what they say they are, who have dishonest & grandiose self-serving intentions & delusions and I daresay that this board contains that element; some harmless, some not.

Yep. I am and I will give you some reasons for it.

He made our country look bad by becoming the face of America, leading to lord knows how many attacks against people over there. I am not saying we looked great before to the beardies, but Jack's Sodomy Upside Down Cake in Kabul sure did not help anything.

Plus there is a limited group of people that want to turn this guy into a "persecuted hero" and when you let someone else be in charge of a story, it will eventually become their version everyone believes. That is Idema continuing to con from the grave, and success in that will mean more little Jacks popping up in war zones getting folks killed, and giving the Guardian set another "See....look at how brutal the Americans are" story when he represents only himself, and not Americans.

I know nationalism and patriotism are often only applied to either warfare or the olympics as appropriate times to display them, but there are those of who take pride in our national character and want to make sure by using over-kill if needed, that people know Idema does not represent it. I view him and people like him the same way I feel when driving through Detroit.

There is more tho....CNN and some saw through his bullshit and simply ignored him...but they did not expose him. Others like UPI, CBS, Nat Geo, Fox, Random House and many others not only paid him money, published his crap but then refused to expose him in fear of damaging their own reputations. In fact Nat Geo, CBS and Random House went out of their way to cover up his fraud. Others like CJR, Flogging the Simian, News Observer and a tiny handful of people published in the above posts made a moral judgement call and called him out on his bullshit. Had they done that sooner a number of people would not have died, been impoverished or their reputations ruined.
