Plug from your butt?

Meh, more like the Hebrews shaking off the shackles of Pharaonic bondage... without all the wandering and kvetching.

Kurt nailed it on the gear and ESPECIALLY on the sanity. Haiti is the girlfriend who drives you freakin nuts when your with her, and you realize she's under your skin when you're not.

Pignon is a tiny, quaint town up on the Central Plat, but it has he best surgical facility in the country. The hospital was started my a retired USAF Col. ( a Haitian) and a group of MN docs who created a an Operating suite where any MD can walk in, look around and say, "okay, I can work here".

You should check it out.

If you venture up towards the Cap Haitien area, be sure to see Christophe's Citadelle. It jars the senses, like most everything in this remarkable country.
Also, please be very careful traveling east beyond Limonade towards the border with the Dominican Republic.
The bus I was on took a wrong turn coming back from Milot, and we got boarded by some "police" who were "lookeeng for draugs eh kawnterrfeet mohnee."
They confiscated my Atenolol pill bottle in the process.
i've always wondered how the "gendarme" handled an Atenolol overdose.
Must have been real scary to have your BP plummet and your heart slow down that much.
Heehee.
