It's hardly unusual or a sign of incredible wealth for a well-established middle-class family to be able to gift their adult child $10,000.

>>>Exactly, and there you just answered your own question of, "How do you know if you're middle class, upper-middle class, or upper class?" If you can gift your child $10,000 that didn't come from slinging crack.
"...That was some weird shit."

- George W. Bush, after hearing Donald Trump's Inauguration speech. January 20, 2017. Washington D. C.

Nobody ever said the Peterson's were slinging crack. They were, however, broke. Like most Americans. Just because you live in a nice house and drive a fancy SUV doesn't mean your rich. Not when the bank owns the house and financier owns the SUV and all of your future income is already spent.

In fact, you can gift anyone up to $11,000 per year income tax free for the recipient. It's a good way to transfer your estate to your kids before you bite the big one.

Being able to "gift" your children more than most people around the world make in a year isn't a sign of "wealth"?

Wooaah Nelly!! .....back up a bit, the Nick Berg scenario was no kind of psyop - just skillfully arranged technocrat deployment that failed for any number of reasons.

Not the least of which being Nick's own faith and conscience plus how his work rubbed his captors who sincerely distrust anything and everything the boy might bring into the outback, even already half-way islamiic himself.

Far, far better it would have been if he had married into Iraqi family first and then possibly worked at semi-surface say in another year or two, or however it may have turned out unprescribed and NOT so closely arranged. But the crew always seems to be in a hurry, dont they? At pandering operatives beyond their measure, i mean.

And just WTF was so shocking horrible of the boy's expression as last seen that suddenly we must borrow sorrow at high interest over somebody whose death none but he can completely know?

Nobody lives forever, but let's pace ourselves and remember that one New York minute of scimitar stroke could have been deferred if we understood that desert time means nobody should go it alone without foundation of at least a dozen months of just plain hanging around and getting acquainted with local yokels, Pelton style.

It aint the practice or technique that failed here, just the timing and MO / modus operandi of the fast sell that has gotten more than one of our kin killed or captured under pressure from the home office, keepin the solo too closely leashed and tethered. That's what caused the ... --- ...
