Sean Penn Ripped Off RYP?!

Postby Zero » Sat Nov 07, 2015 11:00 pm

Movie is not Pierre Morel's best work, but was entertaining: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gunman_%28film%29

Sean Penn obviously did his homework, but we all knew that Sean Penn couldn't resist going full RYPtard:

Hello. I'm Sean Penn. Gun violence is bad. Very, very bad. Please don't support the firearms industry and their schemes to peddle deadly merchandise to 8 year old kids. That's not to say that you shouldnt't watch my films. Nevermind that they are filled with gratuitous violence and gun porn. It's meant to be ironic, you see? To show the duality of mankind and stuff, and to show people that guns are bad, and they kill people and stuff, and that's sad, and you know, don't do it. I'm not supposed to look cool or glamorous while gunning down hordes of extras in my movies. That was a camera mistake. The cameraman just wasn't capable of putting me in a bad light, as I was intending, because I'm incapable of looking bad or unglamorous. But please don't mistake my altruistic intent. I was just trying to make gun violence look bad and stuff. I'm completely serial. Please don't boycott me over some misguided belief that I am a hypocrite, or anything other than an altruistic actor. The greatest actor who ever lived. After Alec Baldwin, and Matt Damon, of course.

Sean Penn sat for secret interview With El Chapo
New York Times By RAVI SOMAIYAJAN. 9, 2016
Joaquín Guzmán Loera, the Mexican drug lord known as El Chapo, started out in business not long after turning 6, selling oranges and soft drinks. By 15, he said in an interview conducted in a jungle clearing by the actor and director Sean Penn for Rolling Stone magazine, he had begun to grow marijuana and poppies because there was no other way for his impoverished family to survive.

Dear god was he paid by the word because this shit is LONG. I'm 2000+ words in and he's just now quoting El Chapo because dude wanted to know if US media was covering him. And he keeps talking about how fabulous everyone's wristwatch is without bothering to describe them. Are the solid gold? Encrusted with diamonds? Can we at least have a brand name? Jesus fuck. I'm never getting that 20 minutes of my life back, Sean.

EDIT: You're not going to tell us which major corporations in the USA and Mexico are laundering money for El Chapo, after he fucking told you, on the record? And right afterward, this self aggrandizing bit, "When I do journalism, I take no payment." Great, you're undermining the paycheck of actual journalists AND not naming names? GAH. I'm going to read every gratuitous fucking word of this interview though. Even though I have shit to do. Even though at least 300 of them have been about about how awesome Penn is in Haiti.

EDIT: Now he's talking about how he accidentally farted in front of El Chapo. And El Chapo, because of chivalry - that was the word Penn used - pretended not to notice. Kill me now there are like 5000 more of these words.

EDIT: "So Kate and I board the charter back to Los Angeles. Our heads are spinning. Had we really just been where we were? With whom we'd been? It seemed such a strange dream. Somehow, with all the planning and the travel, I still hadn't believed that we'd actually gotten to El Chapo." You know what my dream is? That Rolling Stone had an editor with the balls and permission to cut a piece by the great Sean Penn by about 3000 words.

EDIT: OMG now Penn thinks that the reason why El Chapo refuses to contact him in English, or send a video of himself interviewing himself, is because deep down he's a humble peasant instead of a real businessman. Um, you're the one asking for a favor, Mr. "I just had to mention I went to Lima and Managua because of World Bank stuff despite it having no bearing on the story," and you never bothered to learn Spanish despite living in Los Angeles your entire life. Jesus. To be fair, there was a really good bit about Algodones that didn't waste my time a few paras earlier.

EDIT: Finally, 5000 words in, we get to the 17-minute interview which is a video of El Chapo answering Penn's questions. A sample:

Do you consider yourself a violent person?
No, sir.

Are you prone to violence, or do you use it as a last resort?
Look, all I do is defend myself, nothing more. But do I start trouble? Never.

There's also a bit about how he used to sell oranges as a child, because of poverty.

EDIT: Oh man, what a stupid, pointless article. At least it's over. Your time would be better spent watching that movie he made with Madonna, I'm not even joking GAH.

To be honest, there wasn't a huge chance I was going to sit through a Sean Penn article.

OMG I just watched the Charlie Rose interview with Sean Penn on 60 Minutes and (1) Charlie Rose is probably the best interviewer working today, at least in English; and (2) Sean Penn is just a fucking cunt.

I wanted to like the El Chapo interview. I want to like Sean Penn. I just saw a kind of OK movie with him in it, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (James Thurber was one of my favorite writers when I was a kid, so sue me), and he was good, in the context of an uninspired, family-friendly Hollywood comedy. But NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE what a jerk. Rose is like "A lot of people would have liked to see El Chapo's reaction if you tried to hold him responsible for murdering and drug dealing and narco king pinning all over Mexico's dead students" and Penn was all, "Well, dude, that's like an age old problem. None of those people is me. I am me. And I did what I did. Journalism today is like so terrible, it's just terrible, and like, if we just see El Chapo as a bad man, like, who are we? Oh, and we like humiliated the Mexican government by ordering a pizza right to the classroom, man, it was hilarious."

STFU. Please. Dude. STFU.

EDIT: I was paraphrasing, those are not direct quotes. But if, for some reason, you doubt that Sean Penn is a fucking cunt, here's the actual interview: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes- ... rlie-rose/

James Thurber is awesome. I loved his stories about his grandfather who would go in and out of lucidity. There was a reason he was as popular as he was because he was hilarious. Wodehouse has continued to be popular but, except for Mitty, Thurber has not but they are both on par with one another.

Dunno about Penn. Gonna wait until I talk to my Haitian friends to hear about him, but I do not doubt he is a bit of an ass when it comes to El Chapo.
