Now that Brazil's had a "successful" coup, right in front of the Olympics FFS, all bets are off as far as Venezuela. If it goes smoothly *snort* than maybe they'll oust Maduro undemocratically despite my prognostications.

But what a clusterfuck. Former President Dilma had already been cleared of pretty much all wrongdoing when the guy leading the coup, Cunha, was not only busted for embezzling MILLIONS but also named in the Panama Papers. Along with new President Temer and most of his cabinet. All of whom are white men - in Brazil, which is half female, half black, and a sixth indigenous or mixed. Their plan is to totally unravel Lula's social programs, even though Brazilians voted to keep them, even under the charismatically challenged Dilma, for four straight elections. The best part imho is that Temer's wife is a "beauty queen 42 years his junior, who has his name tattooed on her neck." Pure fucking class. Temer has a 2% approval rating.

EDIT:

The Temer Administration: Somewhere, an editor at The Economist just jizzed three consecutive times into the spare Gold Toe sock he keeps in his desk.

If, and by if I mean when, these neoliberal fuckwits send what's left of the Brazilian economy into a tailspin, if not a civil war, then maybe global finance can stop having coups for a while? Jesus. The eighth largest economy in the world, right before the Olympics. What could possibly go wrong.

I am kinda shocked that Brazilian Right-wingers have decided to do this pre-Olympics
maybe this is the excuse they'll use for the clusterfuck it is destined to be

It's more evidence of their incompetence. If it goes well, the Workers Party can claim that they accomplished it, because they kind of did (preparations are already 98% complete); if it goes badly, they can blame the coup. It's lose/lose for Team Temer. If these World Bank muppets had 2/3 of a clue they'd have timed this thing more strategically, especially once it became clear that Cunha was going to prison no matter what. They had so many opportunities to put this off for a few months, they could have pulled the plug on this stupidity two nights ago, no problem, and picked it back up after the Olympics.

But like Napoleon and Hitler, they just kept marching right into the snowstorm, I mean shit storm, and none of these people is the kind of genius I expect to be able to build a stable, conservative government on top of an ever-shifting commodities market. I.... I'll just let the New York Times make that point with their bitchy little literary facepalm...

MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: Indian officials say they have proposed an oil-for-drugs barter plan with cash-strapped Venezuela to recoup millions of dollars in payments owed to some of India's largest pharmaceutical companies.

Several of India's generics producers, led by the country's second-largest player Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd , bet heavily on Venezuela as they sought emerging market alternatives to slower-growing economies such as the United States .

Who gives a fucking toss about Venezuela? Seriously, nobody gives a fuck, the only South American country run with any efficiency was Chile under General Pinochet. Socialism is a fucking mess wherever it raises its mangy fucking head. A short ride in a helicopter for all of them, just fucking right

Cheers
