You've got mail!

I will tell you a funny Mosul story someday. Picking up 1,000 AKs from the US base with a bunch of Kurds. What could go wrong?
Well, let me just say that with a bunch of guys in civilian trucks and mis-matched uniforms, I at least used Far Range Recognition, short range procedures and personally walked the last 6 blocks to wave them thru.

No issues, they were 100% and to my surprise, a USN Officer is my baby sitter. Cut backs were so bad, they took the ocean away from the poor guys and put them in the desert.

I get my merry band inside safely and ask if I can feed them as it's lunch time and they let me go. Being a good former NCO I am in the back of the line. I did check for pork before they lined up and saw hamburger patties onto buns. To my horror as I close in, and they are already eating, its not hamburger patties, it pork sausage patties from breakfast leftovers.

Just sat there praying nobody would notice or open their mouths. Nobody did, thank god.

That's only part of the story. LOL, another part was our 20 ton flatbead that stalled out when you hit the brakes in downtown Mosul.

Christ, this is how the BFC started off. I might even get thru with one without 400 Guardian Articles being posted telling me that's not how it is, blah blah.

After all these years, you're just now noticing how naval officers always end up in charge? There's a very good reason for that.

And they didn't take the oceans away from us. We run that too.

LOL. Thank you for your support... (mandatory job back).

In all seriousness, I don't care what branch you are in. Every one does their job very, very well. I worked with a former Navy Intel Officer at distance for about 3 years and the guy was a class act in every sense. Me on the other hand - Well, the army used to have a rank called Specialist 4th class. I was Specialist "No Class".

Besides, you guys have cool hats for enlisted guys. Who wouldn't want to run around with one of those on! So now that Obama is doing away with over 200 years of tradition to "Take the Men out of Seamen" or any other reference to "men" in the rank structure, what's your take on that? (HINT: There is only one correct answer).

Praying that Ray Maybus is shit canned before Trumps ass hit's the chair and I was Army.

General Mattias for SECDEF; thank god. And I didn't vote for Trump, but to flush the abject pussies out of Defense has been a crisis level need for years.

Hmmm. A handle like "Goat Balls". I should have immediately known you were a Naval Officer. (have a good one).

Yeah, that was one of my nicknames. Wore it right on the front of my flight suit. It was hilarious. The first time I met CAG, (carrier air group commander) he looked at me and said hello LT. then looked at my name tag and said balls. LT Balls. It was a bit awkward wearing that when I had to meet with the admiral or the skipper of the carrier but that's the breaks of naval air.

I am a fan of the army and marine corps as well. They go to the shitholes, live in a tent and eat crap out of can with a knife. All we had to do was fly air support. That's a good deal man. If it didn't have a proper wardroom and stateroom, I don't want to go there. Plus a cabin boy to get my clothes cleaned and pressed.

Cheers amigo

OH yeah jefe, in my navy all the other pilots would give you a name like goat balls. You didn't get to pick your name. In obamas navy I'll bet they get punished for stunts like that.

If we didn't like you we'd break into your room and take a crap in your boots. The phantom shitter. Everybody feared the phantom shitter. It was hard to get new boots in the north Arabian Sea and it wasn't funny.

I hear you. I went in in 1982 and retired in 2008 from the NG. Talk about getting pussified. But god, how could one even enjoy strippers today when they might have been something else?
.
My Uncle is a retried Navy Pilot and flew the Unfriendly Airways in Vietnam. I normally had AF overhead but had A7s on my first visit offshore to make that "on the spot correction" in Grenada. A far better and more important operation than it will be remembered as for sure. And for a cherry private, a very good eye opener about taking everything deadly seriously. (that would have been me).

Well hat's off to you GB. LOL, Goat Balls, j.g., but you are probably too old for that. Christ, why didn't you say so years ago on this site. If you still travel, drop me a line. I live simple and am just doing the duffel bag drag using my education benefits (online) while I travel as it's use it or lose it time. I am at a bit of a loss as I never planned to be alive at this age, lol.

All the best. Thanks for being up there and serious about that.

PS: 4yrs in Panama, I worked with USN a lot there and enjoyed it. Back to insults now. I am getting old.

First hello. 2nd, they still have it. But they used to have SPC5/6/7/8 etc. and it was a better system.

For example, a clerk at Finance was not an NCO. He was a clerk and not a leader. He was a manager at best. Not all about ego. About division of adequate and specialized training and missions.

I was an E4 twice was well. I did that 3 days before the E6 board at 4yrs and 6 months which back then was flying. Always off duty shit. I used to look forward to the field and fortunatately, they never kept us out for long.

I know the corsair well. I didn't fly them but I was around them for many years until they transitioned to hornets. A-7 was a Vietnam era deal. The natops manual said it was acceptable for a seven second spool up time for their engine to reach full power. That's a lifetime. If they came aboard the boat and missed a wire, there was a decent chance they couldn't get the power up to get airborne again. Then it was off the angle and splash. Then the giant props would chew you up. That was real man shit those guys did. In very rough seas those guys would cut their power and dive at the deck. That was some crazy shit at night. I would watch them from a distance. It was quite the show every night. I had one right in front of me one night that crashed into the round down and he broke it in half. He didn't get hurt at all. I saw him at breakfast and he was fine.

They put that corsair back together and flew it on that very cruise. Oh yes they did. When they x rayed it for cracks, they did it on the port side of the boat and made everybody move to the starboard side during the X-ray. Some six or seven thousand of us. Heh heh.

Yep, every branch has their own bones they earn for sure. My Uncle got the DFC in Vietnam. Him and one other plane got a bridge that squadron size raids had repeatedly not been able to get. He broke his back in a car accident at 06 and retired rather than take a start and a desk at the Pentagon.

This may be off the wall, but worth mentioning as you seem to be around my age:

I am studying at American Military University (online). I had thought about FSU's campus in Panama (my old barracks actually) and decided to do the online thing so I can travel. I thought an online school would be a Cracker Jack Box type deal (I went to a private college and did real well until my Army fund ran out before I could finish my AA . I qualified for more after retirement). And, with the private college, I can make a reasonable assessment on quality.

AMU has all kinds of jobs for online professors and overall, they are out of this world outstanding. Mostly 06 types. Couple examples:

Astronomy Professor: Currently serving Army Astronaut at Space Command
Maritime Law: Retired 06, Coastie JAG with Command time on ships. In Charge of a Region (as in national region) for DHS. Brilliant and great guy.

Etc. etc. I have had about 30% or higher at that level of truly outstanding. 30% at a good standard, 30% at meet standard and for the others, believe it or not, they fired one Professor immediately that I sent a written statement in on for incompetence etc. (everything is documented in an online class).

Just thought I would mention it as it might help you. Obviously, most of the students are serving MIL or ex. MIL.

My lesson with either school is the same as any work: "He who does his homework wins."

Minimal workload on teacher. You could no doubt help out some GIs if you are looking for something to do.

All the Best.

PS: So we can make a TV Show like JAG now on you (LOL, a pilot, Navy SEAL and Lawyer...what's he hiding?).

"GOAT BALLS, j.g." I think it's catchy.

Holla.
I got my second article 15 for off-duty shit when I was an E-4 (p), busted back to E-2, so I would not ever make E-6. Made E-5 and I was done with the Army.
I worked as a clerk(jerk) in our squadron border operations for a year and a half, until I broke my co-workers jaw , blackened both his eyes and got sent back to a line troop per my request. As my co-worker was a bully and hated by everyone, only hi-fives and First Sargent buying me beers. No art-15 on that beat down.

LOL, sounds like we were from the same era. I remember my first couple months at Bragg. I had just missed a barracks thief's attempted suicide.

(this is serious too). "He locked himself inside a wall locker and through himself out the 2nd story window". LOL, needless to say, the "investigations" was minimal.

One of the best things I ever saw was morning PT. The sun is coming up over DeGlooper Field and lo and behold, some tactical masterminds had stolen a Hamburgler Statue from McDonals (a big one too, it was probably 15' high or something) and put it on Brigade HQ lawn. It was FRI too. The BDE CDR held a 1300 formation and congratulated the responsible soldiers on "the technical and tactical expertise" it took to pull of the theft, infiltrate post with it and "put it on my fucking front lawn!".

He then stated that the BDE (1800 men) was on lockdown until the ones who did it were standing in his office. Since they were holding up a 3 day pass, it would have been a near death experience for them not to, so they went straight to his office, got AR 15s and passed into respected legends.

AR 15s for lighting a cigarette in the field or something like that were taken very seriously. For off duty shit, it was expected.

Besides, good on you for doing a few years Hitoru.

All the Best.

Enlisted at 17 . 4 yrs active, 6 in IRR. I trained every year after the first year for at least a month(up to 3 months) after I got out, I re-uped twice. If I didn't go to a school I went back to my Cav Troop at FT. Hood. My old platoon Sgt was now top and I got away with murder. He was was the one who had lied , got me busted, and I believe he had a guilty conscience. I have some really ugly stories about Bragg. Lots of fun ones about Germany , we stayed out in the field. Up to 120 days , I got to stay at our border camp for two months at a time doing border patrols, it was a blast. We would arrest US. forces that had traveled into the forbidden 1K zone, handcuff them, throw them in a jeep and drive their car back to base and turn them over to MI for interrogation. It was fun making O-3's cry. It sure was more interesting than High School.

I got sent kicking and screaming with 3,000 other guys from the 82nd to Germany. Worst units I ever saw in the Army. The National Guard Unit I was in was better than the Mechanized slugs I saw. What they called "the field" was a fucking joke. Pure vacation.

But, I was in a great little town. 10KM from Fulda. I got to go thru CP Charlie when it was real and visited East Berlin when East was East and West was West. The dollar was king against the Mark and I really liked the Germans. Went back to that town and would over night en route to Latin America on my I&Is from my first civvie job in Saudi. They had closed the Kaserne pretty much and I was very well received by the locals who said they actually missed us a lot. Hell, the first taxi from the bahnhof I took wouldn't take my money and said welcome back.

All very cool stuff for a kid from a town of 700. I bailed hay growing up and working in the only gas station in town which sold groceries too. Overall, particularly in the Airborne, my experience in the Army was pretty much stellar, although in the Infantry, I was tired before I was 30. Rucksack, rifle and a platoon of great guys (except Germany. Bunch of fucking turds) and I had a great time doing.

Have a good one. By the way, 3rd ACR or the ACR guys on the border I DID hear real good things about. I bet that was a great mission to work and definitely a bit of history!
