Parents of murdered Democrat Seth Rich dismayed by Fox News

"The parents of Seth Rich, the murdered Democrat aide, have expressed their dismay at Fox News, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, for publishing a discredited story about their son which is at the centre of allegations of collusion between the broadcaster and the White House.

Joel Rich, the dead man’s father, told a radio station, NPR, that the news network’s story that wrongly claimed their late son was the source of hacked Democratic party emails was “almost as bad for us as when we first heard of Seth’s death”.

Mary Rich added that the story has damaged attempts to find her son’s killer. “This whole blown-up BS has taken the eye off the ball – and that just buckles me to my knees that they’ve damaged so much of trying to find who his murderer is.”

It led to critics of Rupert Murdoch on both sides of the Atlantic drawing parallels between the Seth Rich story and the News of the World hacking the phone of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, saying it shows that Murdoch’s proposed £11.7bn takeover of Sky should not be allowed to go ahead."

Confusion, anger inside Fox News over lack of answers in network's Seth Rich probe

A person with knowledge of the situation told CNN that employees have been left puzzled as to why no one has been held accountable for one of Fox News' most high-profile mistakes.

"No one knows," the person said. "This is like a huge question mark internally. This is a giant mystery."

When the story was deleted in May, a statement was left in its place that said the network would "continue to investigate" the situation and "provide updates as warranted." More than two months have gone by, but no updates have been made available. After Wheeler's lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, Jay Wallace, Fox News' president of news, said the network's probe was still ongoing.

"The retraction of this story is still being investigated internally and we have no evidence that Rod Wheeler was misquoted by Zimmerman," Wallace said in his Tuesday statement."

Election May Be Seth Rich Murder, Republican Lobbyist Tells Robert Mueller

Robert S. Mueller III just celebrated his 73rd birthday, but don’t expect him to take a vacation. Not only is the special counsel investigating potential collusion between Russia and the presidential campaign of Donald Trump, he is also reportedly looking into potential obstruction of justice by Trump in the firing of FBI Director James Comey, as well as the tangled finances of the Trump family. Mueller’s impaneling of a grand jury in Washington, D.C., last week suggests he is moving rapidly on all these fronts.

But now a Republican lawyer and lobbyist wants Mueller to add another matter to his docket: the 2016 murder of Seth Rich, a 27-year-old employee of the Democratic National Committee. Rich was shot twice in the back as he walked home late at night from a bar in the Washington neighborhood of Bloomingdale. None of his possessions were taken, which has made some skeptical of official claims that the killing—which remains unsolved—was a robbery gone awry. Among those skeptics is Fox News host Sean Hannity, who has hinted Rich may have been killed by Democratic operatives for leaking DNC emails that cast the Democratic establishment, which heavily favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders in the presidential primary, in an unflattering light.

“We’ve ruled out that this a street crime," says Jack Burkman, the Republican operative who is urging Mueller to use his newly impaneled grand jury to investigate the Rich murder. In his letter to the special counsel, which was sent on Tuesday, Burkman argues that Rich’s murder “may be the ‘missing link’ that connects otherwise incongruent events relating to Russia collusion in the 2016 presidential election.” Burkman says in the letter that he is “willing to testify under oath” and “will share what we know” about the Rich murder.

And what does he know, exactly? Burkman says that in January, a former U.S. intelligence agent who’d worked in the Middle East “heard from credible sources” that Rich, who was working on voter outreach for the DNC, discovered evidence of Russian hacking. Burkman also says that about a month ago, a source at the DNC told him that in the early summer of 2016, Rich met with Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Kremlin-affiliated lawyer whom Donald Trump Jr. hosted at Trump Tower on June 9 of that year. Burkman believes that Rich angrily “presented her with a lot of emails” that were subsequently published by WikiLeaks on July 22, just days before Rich was murdered.

Exclusive: The chaos behind the scenes of Fox News' now-retracted Seth Rich story
by Oliver Darcy @CNNMoney August 10, 2017: 6:37 PM ET

"For more than two months, Fox News has declined to explain the story behind one of its most high-profile journalistic disasters -- the publication of an article that aimed to tie slain Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich to Wikileaks. Now CNN has learned the details and is disclosing them for the first time.

Rod Wheeler, a Fox News contributor and former detective hired to investigate Rich's death on behalf of the slain man's family, sued the network last week, claiming that quotes in the story attributed to him were fabricated, and that the whole effort had been a collaboration with the White House to advance a storyline aimed at discrediting allegations President Trump colluded with Russia to influence the outcome of the 2016 election. (The White House has denied being involved with the story.)

But CNN's reporting into what happened behind the scenes at Fox News shows that Wheeler's own actions likely played a central role. In the day leading up to the article's publication, Wheeler went rogue. In doing so, he sent the network's editorial process into chaos, and as a result the article was rushed to the site without undergoing the kind of editorial scrutiny it should have received. "

Congressman: WikiLeaks' Assange 'has info of dramatic importance to U.S.'

'I would bet that we are going to get information that will be mind-boggling'

"WASHINGTON – Julian Assange has met with a U.S. lawmaker who says the WikiLeaks founder is seeking a pardon in exchange for “information that will be of dramatic importance to the United States” concerning the source of the Democratic National Committee email leak during the 2016 presidential election.
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., said Assange asked him during a three-hour meeting Wednesday to relay information to President Trump regarding the alleged DNC hack last year.

“Our three-hour meeting covered a wide array of issues, including the WikiLeaks exposure of the DNC emails during last year’s presidential election,” Rohrabacher told the Hill.

Rohrabacher said he and Assange explored “what might be necessary to get him out” of the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he has claimed asylum.

The congressman told the Daily Caller: “[I]f [Assange] is going to give us a big favor, he would obviously have to be pardoned to leave the Ecuadorian embassy” where Assange has resided since 2012 to avoid extradition to the United States. The U.S. has sought to charge him for assisting former NSA analyst Edward Snowden in leaking classified information.

“He has information that will be of dramatic importance to the United States and the people of our country as well as to our government,” Rohrabacher said, according to the Daily Caller. “Thus if he comes up with that, you know he’s going to expect something in return. He can’t even leave the embassy to get out to Washington to talk to anybody if he doesn’t have a pardon. Obviously there is an issue there that needs to be dealt with, but we haven’t come to any conclusion yet.”

Assange meets US congressman, vows to prove Russia did not leak him documents

TheHill

Julian Assange told a U.S. congressman on Tuesday he can prove the leaked Democratic Party documents he published during last year’s election did not come from Russia and promised additional helpful information about the leaks in the near future.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican who is friendly to Russia and chairs an important House subcommittee on Eurasia policy, became the first American congressman to meet with Assange during a three-hour private gathering at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where the WikiLeaks founder has been holed up for years.

Rohrabacher recounted his conversation with Assange to The Hill.

The Man Behind The Scenes In Fox News' Discredited Seth Rich Story
August 16, 20175:04 AM ET Heard on Morning Edition David Folkenflik Twitter

NPR.org | August 16, 2017

"Until now, Ed Butowsky has enjoyed edging close to the limelight — an investment adviser who has pursued celebrity clients, his profile burnished through appearances on Fox News and its sister channel Fox Business Network.

Butowsky, a 55-year-old former Morgan Stanley executive, has been celebrated in glossy magazines, touted for his financial acumen, toasted for his proximity to the powerful.

In recent weeks, however, Butowsky has received unwanted scrutiny.

In a May 16 story that has since been discredited, Fox News breathed new life into conspiracy theories making the rounds in conservative circles about the murder last year of Seth Rich, a 27-year-old aide to the Democratic National Committee. Fox reported that Rich's computer had been linked to leaks of Democratic Party officials' emails to WikiLeaks and that his death might be connected to those leaks. Fox also reported there might have been a cover-up."

Federal grand jury indicts former Wasserman Schultz aide Imran Aswan

"Imran Awan, the former information technology aide to multiple Democratic members of Congress, including Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Weston, was indicted Thursday on four charges including bank fraud and engaging in unlawful monetary transactions.

Also indicted was Awan’s wife, Hina Alvi, who also worked as an IT aide in Democratic congressional offices.

The charges don’t have a direct relationship to their work in congressional offices, but the criminal charges add to the political heat directed toward their congressional employers, especially Wasserman Schultz."

When searching for posted "Seth Rich" related topics, I generally read about 5 pages down. This one, 4 months old, just showed up on Google.

"Yes, the DNC had Seth Rich Murdered. Here is How I Know."

"In the wee hours of July 10, 2016, in the Bloomingdale area of Washington, D.C., a 27-year-old DNC staffer was shot twice in the back. He died in the hospital approximately two hours later.

His name was Seth Rich.

The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department suggest his murder was the result of a botched robbery. Conspiracy theorists, however, maintain that Rich was assassinated by the DNC in retaliation for leaking the now infamous DNC emails published by WikiLeaks last fall.

But, to be sure, the Seth Rich story is not so much a “conspiracy theory” as it is a conspiracy fact. As in, it is a fact that wicked and powerful people conspired to have Seth Rich murdered and the subsequent investigation into his death thwarted."

Why Is Only ONE News Station Covering Little Debbie Story?

Allen West Republic

"Why is it that Little Debbie Wassermen-Schultz has two IT aides under Federal indictment and only one news station is covering the story? Imran Awan, her former IT aide now has four counts against him. He had access to all kinds of Democrat Representatives IT systems and espionage has not been ruled out. Where IS the mainstream media? Crickets

As Written, Reported By and Seen First on Fox News:

The federal case against Imran Awan, a former IT aide for Democratic Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, expanded Thursday with an indictment on four counts including conspiracy and making false statements.

He originally was charged with a single bank fraud count; his wife Hina Alvi also was indicted Thursday.

The grand jury decision in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia comes roughly a month after Awan was arrested at Dulles airport in Virginia trying to board a plane to Pakistan, where his family is from."

Former U.S. Attorney On Awan Indictment: "There Is Something Very Strange Going On Here"

From ZeroHedge

"We've written frequently over the past couple of months about the litany of unanswered questions surrounding the mysterious case of Debbie Wasserman Schultz's (DWS) IT staffers. Why did DWS seemingly threaten the chief of the U.S. Capitol Police with “consequences” for holding equipment that was confiscated as part of an ongoing legal investigation? Why did DWS keep Awan on her taxpayer funded payroll all the way up until the day he was arrested by the FBI at Dulles airport while trying to flee the country to Pakistan? What, if anything, does the Awan family know about the DNC hacks that may have caused DWS to act in this way?

Now, Andrew McCarthy III, the former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York who led the prosecution against Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman and eleven others for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, says there is "something very strange" about the recent indictment filed against Imran Awan and his wife Hina Alvi in the District of Columbia.

In a National Review article, McCarthy points out that it's not what's in the indictment that is necessarily surprising but rather what is seemingly intentionally omitted. For instance, McCarthy points out that "the indictment appears to go out of its way not to mention" that Imran was apprehended while in the process of fleeing the country, a fact that would seem to be the best evidence available to prove the fraud charges.

Let’s say you’re a prosecutor in Washington. You are investigating a husband and wife, naturalized Americans, who you believe have scammed a federal credit union out of nearly $300,000. You catch them in several false statements about their qualifications for a credit line and their intended use of the money. The strongest part of your case, though, involves the schemers’ transferring the loot to their native Pakistan.

So . . . what’s the best evidence you could possibly have, the slam-dunk proof that their goal was to steal the money and never look back? That’s easy: One after the other, the wife and husband pulled up stakes and tried to high-tail it to Pakistan after they’d wired the funds there — the wife successfully fleeing, the husband nabbed as he was about to board his flight.

Well, here’s a peculiar thing about the Justice Department’s indictment of Imran Awan and Hina Alvi, the alleged fraudster couple who doubled as IT wizzes for Debbie Wasserman Schultz and many other congressional Democrats: There’s not a word in it about flight to Pakistan. The indictment undertakes to describe in detail four counts of bank-fraud conspiracy, false statements on credit applications, and unlawful monetary transactions, yet leaves out the most damning evidence of guilt.

In fact, the indictment appears to go out of its way not to mention it.

Why would prosecutors leave that out of their indictment? Why give Awan’s defense a basis to claim that, since the indictment does not allege anything about flight to Pakistan, the court should bar any mention of it during the trial? In fact, quite apart from the manifest case-related reasons to plead instances of flight, a competent prosecutor would have included them in the indictment simply to underscore that Awan is a flight risk who should have onerous bail conditions or even be detained pretrial."

IT staffers may have compromised sensitive data to foreign intelligence

NY Post

"What started out 16 months ago as a scandal involving the alleged theft of computer equipment from Congress has turned into a national security investigation involving FBI surveillance of the suspects.

Investigators now suspect that sensitive US government data — possibly including classified information — could have been compromised and may have been sold to hostile foreign governments that could use it to blackmail members of Congress or even put their lives at risk.

“This is a massive, massive scandal,” a senior US official familiar with the widening probe told The Post.
Alarm bells went off in April 2016 when computer security officials in the House reported “irregularities” in computer equipment purchasing. An internal investigation revealed the theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars in government property, and evidence pointed to five IT staffers and the Democratic Congress members’ offices that employed them.

The evidence was turned over to the House inspector general, who found so much “smoke” that she recommended a criminal probe, sources say. The case was turned over to Capitol Police in October.

When the suspected IT workers couldn’t produce the missing invoiced equipment, sources say, they were removed from working on the computer network in early February.

During the probe, investigators found valuable government data that is believed to have been taken from the network and placed on offsite servers, setting off more alarms. Some 80 offices were potentially compromised.

Most lawmakers fired the alleged “ringleader” — longtime IT staffer Imran Awan — in February. But Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former Democratic National Committee chief, kept Awan on her payroll until his arrest last month on seemingly unrelated charges of defrauding the congressional credit union.

For more than a decade, Awan, his wife, two relatives and a friend worked for 30 House Democrats. They included New York City pols Gregory Meeks, Joseph Crowley and Yvette Clarke and members of the sensitive Intelligence and Foreign Relations committees.

Angry Marine Who Discovered Awan's "Smashed Hard Drives" Breaks Silence, Unloads On Wasserman Schultz

"Andre Taggart, the U.S. Marine who alerted the FBI when he moved into a house he rented from Imran Awan only to find a garage full of "smashed hard drives", has decided to reveal his identity in a stinging, at least for Debbie Wasserman Schultz, new interview with the Daily Caller.

Taggart, a black U.S. Marine who says he typically votes Democrat, is apparently fed up with Debbie Wasserman Schultz's Islamophobia smoke screen which he views as just a dishonest attempt to shield the Awans from their crimes. In his epic rant to the Daily Caller, Taggart says the whole thing just "pisses me off" and that he's "absolutely disgusted with everything going on in the country right now."

“It pisses me off,” said Taggart, a black Marine who says he votes Democrat. He believes Wasserman Schultz is crying wolf and devaluing the meaning of genuine discrimination, while also exposing herself and the nation to risks.

“I just want to get these [guys] locked up and exposed and now,” Taggart told TheDCNF. “The people who facilitated them should also be locked up, as far as I’m concerned.”

Taggart said he made the decision to no longer be anonymous because he is concerned that his fellow Democrats are making a grave mistake by ignoring a scandal with serious criminal and national security implications.

“I’m absolutely disgusted with everything going on in the country right now, mostly because of right-wing conservatives, but with respect to this situation, political affiliation is irrelevant,” Taggart said.

“Him, his wife, his brother, all working down there — there’s no way they could do this without help. If we can drag Trump and his wingnuts through the mud for the Russia influence that they are having, then it’s only fair that we also expose this s–t,” Taggart said.

Chaffetz Drops Bomb on Democrats and Wasserman Schultz: Imran Awan Was Not a ‘Lone Operator’ (VIDEO)

"Jason Chaffetz: This is a much, much more serious situation that I think will blossom. I think they probably let him sit there a little bit to see who he is communicating with. But to think this was a lone operator would be naive at best. It is a very, very big story… To be able to follow the trail electronically to where money was flowing, to where information was flowing. I know they’re on top of it. I know they were watching before they actually arrested him. And I do think it is a much, much more serious situation."
