No Apology, No Explanation: Fox News And The Seth Rich Story

From NPR:

"On Monday, lawyers for Fox News must submit court filings addressing how the network mishandled a story about the unsolved killing of a young Democratic Party staffer named Seth Rich.

Assuming Fox answers those questions in any detail, it would be the first time the network has done so publicly.

Fox News was compelled to retract the story, which involved presidential politics, international intrigue and a man's murder.

When a story of this scale crumbles, most news organizations feel obligated to explain what happened and why.

Not so far at Fox, which stands apart journalistically from its competitors in many ways. Unlike the other networks or major newspapers, for example, Fox has no office or executive dedicated to standards and practices. That falls within the larger portfolio of the network's general counsel, Dianne Brandi.

And that gap is reflected in the response to the Rich story as well. In the four months since its retraction, Fox News has not apologized for what it reported. Nor has it explained what went wrong.

So let's try to derive our own lessons about what happened — not as a legal matter, but as a journalistic one.

Lesson No. 1: Investigative reports should be ironclad.

An investigative piece on a tragedy that caused such anguish for a family not used to being in the public eye, doubly so.

"With a family at stake, the journalistic rule, like the medical rule, is first, do no harm," said Tom Bettag, the former executive producer of CBS Evening News and ABC's Nightline during the Ted Koppel era.

Rich's parents say the Fox piece devastated them. "It was like burying Seth all over again," Mary Rich, his mother, tells NPR. "And we need to stay focused on finding his murderers."

BREAKING: Imran Awan Downloaded “Terabits” of Info to Dropbox — May Have Sold DNC Emails

(my note: bits aren't bytes. There are 8 bits in a byte. So, divide the headline by 8. Terabytes being the more common term. I think the headline editor wanted to use TERA for BS impact.)

"IT specialist” Imran Awan worked for Debbie Wasserman Schultz for thirteen years since she was first elected to national office in 2004 as a Florida representative.

She only fired him after he was arrested and would have kept paying her “IT expert” even after he fled to Pakistan.

The Awan brothers IT ring had access to emails and computer data from an estimated 800 lawmakers and staffers.

Three Pakistani brothers who managed the IT affairs for several Democratic government officials were relieved of their duties in February on suspicion that they accessed specific computer networks without permission, also known as hacking.

Imran Awan, who started working for Wasserman Schultz in 2005, received $164,600 in 2016, with close to $20,000 of that coming from Wasserman Schultz.

His brother Jamal, who started working as a staffer in 2014, was paid $157,350.12 in 2016. Abid, who started working in 2005, was paid $160,943 in 2016.

Imran’s wife, Hina Alvi, who was employed as a staffer since February 2007, was paid 168,300 in 2016. Rao Abbas was paid $85,049 in 2016.

Abid, Imran, and Jamal Awan were barred from computer networks at the House of Representatives in February.

Most of the House Members fired the Awans subsequently.
Only Debbie Wasserman Schultz kept Imran Awan on the pay roll up to the day he got arrest for Bank Fraud after trying to flee the country.

The rest of the family fled since months to Pakistan along with hundreds of thousands of tax-payer money they mysteriously were able to wire.

Democrats were willing or unwillingly compromised by the Awans and Sensitive Information leaked to foreign Enemies! (Muslim Brotherhood – Yemen Raid with dead soldier for example?) Many of them have Seats on Committees that handle highly sensitive information.

Last week Capitol Police confirmed Wasserman Schultz’s laptop was found in phone booth at 3 AM with a note to US attorney attached from Imran Awan.

Now this story gets REALLY INTERESTING—-

Federal probe into House technology worker Imran Awan yields intrigue, no evidence of espionage

By Shawn Boburg

Washington Post

In late September 2016, leaders in the House of Representatives met behind closed doors for briefings on a closely held investigation into a group of computer technicians working on Capitol Hill.

Investigators with the Inspector General’s Office had been quietly tracking the five IT workers’ digital footprints for months. They were alarmed by what they saw. The employees appeared to be accessing congressional servers without authorization, an indication that they “could be reading and/or removing information,” according to documents distributed at the previously unreported private briefings.

For some who listened to the findings, the fact that the employees were born in Pakistan set off alarms about national security, according to two participants who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Others thought it more likely that the IT workers, naturalized U.S. citizens, were bending rules on network access to share job duties — violations of House protocol, perhaps, but not espionage.

The matter was soon referred to the Capitol Police, who have been assisted in their investigation by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. In February, the IT workers were barred from accessing the House network, a development that quickly made headlines.

Since then, the story of the House IT workers — brothers Imran Awan, Abid Awan and Jamal Awan, as well as Imran Awan’s wife, Hina Alvi, and friend Rao Abbas — has become a lightning rod charged by the convergence of politics, cybersecurity and fears of foreign intrusion.

It has attracted unfounded conspiracy theories and intrigue. Far-right news organizations seized on it as a potential coverup of an espionage ring that plundered national secrets and might have been responsible for the campaign hacking of the Democratic National Committee, a breach that intelligence agencies have linked to Russia. President Trump has fanned its embers from his Twitter account, reposting a story that claimed the mainstream media was ignoring a scandal “engulfing” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida Democrat who was slow to fire Imran Awan after news of the investigation broke.

Yet, according to a senior congressional official familiar with the probe, criminal investigators have found no evidence that the IT workers had any connection to a foreign government. Investigators looking for clues about espionage instead found that the workers were using one congressional server as if it were their home computer, storing personal information such as children’s homework and family photos, the official said.

Even so, the story — reconstructed here after The Washington Post reviewed confidential documents and interviewed more than a dozen people, including House officials, witnesses and others, many of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive investigation — highlights urgent and persistent questions about how well Congress safeguards computer equipment and data.

Lawyers for some of the IT workers told The Post that their clients had done nothing wrong.

Christopher J. Gowen, one of Imran Awan’s lawyers, called the espionage claims “ludicrous.”

“There’s nothing that Imran did that wasn’t requested by one of his clients on House staff,” he said.

Jim Bacon, a lawyer representing Abid Awan, said “a very lax environment” surrounds security protocols in the House. “I can tell you what they were doing was not unusual,” he said.

The nearly one-year-old investigation has thus far resulted in no charges related to the group’s House IT work. It has burrowed deeply into their personal finances and outside business ventures.

In July, prosecutors in the U.S. District Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia charged Imran Awan and Alvi with bank fraud, alleging that the couple made misrepresentations on an application for a home-equity loan.

Imran Awan was arrested at the airport as he was preparing to board a flight to Pakistan, where his wife and three children — ages 4, 7, and 10 — have been since March. He has pleaded not guilty. Alvi is planning to return to the United States in the coming weeks to face bank-fraud charges, according to court records. None of the other IT workers has been accused of wrongdoing.

The investigation is ongoing. Both the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment.

Much more, it''s long:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/investig ... 554419bf91

From the last 3 paragraphs:
"Appearing at Imran Awan’s first court appearance on Sept. 1 was George Webb, a self-described citizen journalist from Fort Wayne, Ind., who has cultivated 40,000 followers by posting hundreds of conspiratorial videos on YouTube.

He filed papers asking the judge if he could present evidence in the bank-fraud case that would reveal a host of other crimes, including money laundering to terrorist organizations. The judge denied the unusual request. Outside the courthouse, Webb said that he believed prosecutors were conspiring with Awan’s lawyers to minimize the case.

“They’re orchestrating this thing, making it look like there’s a trial here,” Webb said. “There’s no trial here. They are trying to make this look like a small, simple bank fraud case. It’s not. It’s a spy ring in Congress.”

Re WaPo article:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz1VEUbGmBw

Background:

An Accidental Journalist and His Historic Crowd-Sourced Investigation

"In what has ostensibly become the largest crowd-sourced investigation in history, accidental journalist George Webb is leading the charge in an ongoing project that ties together the people, places and events of endemic corruption across federal, state and local agencies in his 4-month-old YouTube investigative series. Now boasting more than 22K Subscribers with an estimated 2M views, the series is perfectly illustrative of the shifting paradigm in modern day news coverage. And while citizen journalism certainly isn’t a new phenomenon, never before have individuals had a platform with such expansive reach whereby their work can be shared, vetted and further developed in real time. Almost as important is that these individuals who were once defamed, harassed and isolated into silence now have vast online communities to support them, validate and refine their work, and provide a venue for exposing the penalties harshly visited upon those who dare defy the Establishment by speaking out.

A career techie who happened to stumble across a drug operation run by local law enforcement about ten years ago, Webb attempted to report what he knew to the proper authorities, as any conscientious member of a community would. However, the unsuspecting Webb discovered that by doing so he became the target of systematic low-grade harassment and intimidation. A few years later when the FBI began setting up Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTF) across the country under the auspices of current Deputy Attorney General Andrew McCabe, Webb’s hometown became a nexus of controversy when it initially refused the agency. Months of protest ensued and a young Somalian man was named as the mastermind behind a bomb plot. The circumstances, however, seemed to unveil an unsuccessful jihadist recruitment psy-op by U.S. ‘Intel,’ based on historical evidence of such activity reported by journalists and retired law enforcement officers, such as the late FBI Director Ted Gunderson. This also lined up directly with Webb’s now-personal experience. In a final turn of events, Ed Snowden’s groundbreaking leak of National Security Agency (NSA) documents drew Webb’s attention, but also an escalation of harassment for speaking out in support of Snowden. It was at this point in 2013 that Webb decided to commit himself full time to exposing corruption.

Webb’s current investigation began with the July 2016 Wikileaks release of John Podesta’s emails in which former Clinton Foundation CEO Eric Braverman is fingered as the whistleblower and of whom, Podesta remarks in one of his emails that he was ‘definitely for making an example of the suspected leaker whether or not we have any real basis for it.’ Knowing the scenario Braverman was likely to face as the source for a leak of such enormous consequence, Webb began digging deeper online into the former foundation CEO’s story. Over the coming months, Webb began piecing together a vast global network of elected and appointed officials, Federal, State and local law enforcement, and powerful corporate interests that collude to strip nations of their resources exploiting taxpayer funds to do so. His research details a strategy and action plan used by this network to destabilize then undermine governments to serve the interests of those who profit most from ongoing war and devastation.

A macabre tale of unbridled greed, corruption, and unspeakable violence, Webb’s series peels back the layers of a decades-old, deeply embedded organized crime syndicate to rival those of empires long ago. The story is simultaneously intriguing and revolting, one rife with drugs, sex, weapons, blackmail, and countless assassinations, but also the gruesome deaths of many millions of innocents.

For anyone who wants a deeper understanding of the ways in which our government has been hijacked, I highly recommend Webb’s series. It’s transparency and iterative quality make it a superior tool for illuminating specific ways in which our systems have been corrupted to serve the interests of a very few. And given the current state of network media, we are unlikely to ever get close to the truth unless we seek it out for ourselves. Only then can we demand accountability from our government agencies and the corporate interests they are mandated to oversee on behalf of the public’s best interests. As we have seen throughout history, empires inevitably collapse under their own weight . . . something we are likely witnessing today in real time as the opposing forces of an informed populace and an ethically bankrupt system collide."

The Awan breach on Capitol Hill gets murkier and leads to more questions

By Sara A. Carter

circa.com | 2017-09-14T22:51:33.012Z

On April 6, at midnight, in a small room once used as a phone booth on the second floor of the Rayburn House Office Building, a Capitol Hill Police Officer doing his security rounds discovered evidence that will possibly reveal one of the the biggest security breaches involving House Democrats by the Awan family, a group of entrusted IT staffers, according to court records, police reports and news reports.

In the small room, the U.S. Capitol Police found a laptop computer registered to Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, a Florida Democrat and former DNC chairwoman. Wasserman-Schultz had been fighting authorities for months to return the laptop, that she once claimed was not hers.

What's more concerning, say senior House officials who spoke to Circa, is that Imran Awan was also allegedly transferring files - including documents and emails - of House Democrats to a secret server connected to the less secure House Democratic Caucus. The organization was then chaired by Rep. Xavier Becerra, who left Congress in January after being sworn in as the Attorney General of California.

The Daily Caller's Luke Rosiak was the first to break the story and last week Rosiak reported Wasserman Schultz's IT staffer, now indicted Awan, is believed to have planted her laptop in the Rayburn office room, along with his Pakistani ID card, copies of his driver’s license and his congressional ID badge. Awan also left behind letters to the U.S. attorney.

Awan apparently wanted the evidence discovered, according to a Capitol Hill police report on the matter.

Officials are now asking the question of why the computer was left but the answers remain elusive.

"There is no reason to accommodate all the members data on one server and one that was apparently hidden," said the Senior House official. "Why didn't Xavier Becerra know this because it happened on his watch? Each member had their own server to protect against this and Awan intentionally tried to hide what he had done from investigators."

Becerra's office did not return phone calls for comment."

More on George Webb. From 4 June 17:

BREAKING NEWS ALERT: Investigator George Webb On The Run From John Podesta And Hillary Goon Squad! Life And Family Been Threatened Due To Work On Seth Rich Murder Investigation.

by IWB · Published June 2, 2017 · Updated June 4, 2017

by Pamela Williams

"First of all, I pray you spread and make this post viral for George Webb and his family. George has investigated the disappearance of Eric Braverman, Ex-CEO of the Clinton Foundation, and he now believes that Braverman has been taken to Israel for his safety. George has also gotten involved in the murder investigation of Seth Rich. He now believe Seth was assassinated by Hillary Clinton’s goon squad.

George found that there are connections to Hillary’s goon squad and the gang who came across the border during the Obama reign called the MS-13. They have terrorized our Country for some time now, especially in Long Island, NY, having recently murdered a group of school students. It is difficult to believe that the DNC would make such a connection, but they did so due to the dirty jobs they would do for them.

George has just revealed he is connected to the Old Mossad, but he and his connections are battling the Deep State as time, and now he and his family are in danger. He feels that John Podesta, Tony Podesta, and Heather Podesta are just a few of the players in this game of life and death. George has also revealed he is a part of the Wikileaks network. In the below video, it is explained to some degree.

The below is the last video George has made:

Chaos or Trump’s Trap?

Steve Bannon’s “Art of War” Plan is Now in Full Effect.

All Warfare is Based on Deception.

Though Competent, Appear Incompetent.

Though Effective, Appear Ineffective.

Step back and look at the pieces carefully!

Just like in judo, you utilize the energy of the aggressor against the aggressor. Trump is orchestrating the chaos by leaking fake information to trace and bust the leakers, it’s called a canary trap and Steve Bannon and Michael Flynn are running it. Trump is going after Clinton and Weiner is the one who will turn first. Look at the timing of his guilty plea! Trump is 50 steps ahead of everyone! He is also using the fake news media to highlight the crimes of Obama and Clinton, which he is being falsely accused of and utterly destroying any remaining credibility! Flynn accused of Logan act violations yet it’s Bill Clinton who is actually guilty of Logan act violations. Trump is accused of mishandling classified info yet it’s Hillary and her cronies who are guilty of this. Obstruction is obviously Lynch and Bill Clinton tarmac meeting as well as Obama’s influence on Comey. Trump brought attention to McCabe by firing Comey 48 hours before the hearing forcing him into the spotlight forcing him to testify. Flynn asking for immunity highlights the hypocrisy of Clinton aids getting immunity. Not to mention, everyone is asking for Comey’s memos, which will be far more damaging to Obama and Clinton than Trump. Like always, Trump is going to come out the other side smelling like roses with everyone feeling sorry for him for being treated so unfairly. President Trump is going to leave scorched earth with the criminals in our government. Plus, the democrats are endorsing Muller, who just resigned from a Trump-affiliated law firm WilmerHale. The same law firm that represents Ivanka Trump and other Trump loyalists and is the man who will bring them down!

The below are reports I have done on IWB on the work of George Webb:

The below explains further the situation George Webb is involved in right now:

John Podesta in a frenzy converting $40B Clinton Foundation assets into gold, diamonds & artwork.

Independent journalist George Webb says that after President Trump fired FBI director James Comey, longtime Democrat operative and Clinton loyalist John Podesta is in a frenzy to unload $40 billion from the Clinton Foundation — by buying up art, gold and diamonds, and spreading them out all over the world — before those assets are seized by a new FBI director.

John Podesta was the chair of Hillary’s failed 2016 presidential campaign. Before that, he was Counselor to the President in the Obama administration, and White House Chief of Staff in the Bill Clinton administration.

Beginning at the 0:30 mark in the video above, Webb says:

“Right now . . . John Podesta is buying up artwork between every Jewish art dealer.”

Webb is asked: “How do you know that?”

Webb answers:

“I have a contact within the French intelligence that’s told me that. So they’re buying up artwork right now in every, they know every art dealer that he’s buying art from . . . . What you’re dealing with is Trump could go get that 40 billion dollars right now and seize those assets. So before a new FBI director is named — [Acting FBI Director Andrew] McCabe knows all about the $40 billion — you start moving this stuff to gold, diamonds, artwork and so forth, and you put it in your network . . . out into as many different countries as possible, so it’ll be so difficult to actually go seize. You have a contractual issue or an international issue every time you try to get some of this stuff that’s been moved. The money right now is being moved by John Podesta to artwork, diamonds and gold.“

“Webb sees the Seth Rich murder as just a small part of a much bigger picture of high-level racketeering by Hillary Clinton, her minions and whoever she’s fronting. It’s an outrageous amount of money that’s been amassed over some twenty years.”

Webb calls the Clintons’ racketeering, including drug running, the Clinton rat line.

Bruce continues:

“Webb then proceeds to . . . illustrate how the drug-running between Afghanistan and Punjab, to Pakistan, to Turkey’s Incirlik airbase to NATO, in Mons, Belgium.

Webb says, large military transport planes, like C-130s are used to transfer raw opium from Afghanistan to Pakistan, where they are refined into opioid medications, which are then contracted-out by mobbed-up doctors, to places like the VA (US Department of Veterans Affairs), where these generic drugs (usually watered-down to half- or quarter-strength) are distributed from Belgium.

He says information about all of the above can be found in the Congressional Blackberry phone network.

He describes these activities as, ‘Just Mena [Arkansas] Airport, on a global scale, just longer distances…It’s very simple: drugs go one way, arms go the other way….’ Half of the cargo gets left in Belgium and the rest comes to the US. In the past, he’s mentioned Offut Air Force Base in Nebraska, as well as an airport in Rockford, Illinois, where drugs were smuggled in shipments of mangoes and Basmati rice. Except that instead of the $1 million per day worth of cocaine being brought in at Mena, Webb claims, in an another one of his blizzard of micro-posts, that Offut AFB receives $1 billion per day (!) in opioids.”

In conclusion, I have to ask of you to spread this report, as George Webb’s life and the lives of his family are in danger by the perps we are very familiar with…John Podesta being the main one at this time.

Report: Former Wasserman Schultz IT Staffer Allegedly Uploaded ‘Terabits of Information to Dropbox’

byLucas Nolan16 Sep 20171,421

Breitbart

A new report claims that former Debbie Wasserman Schultz IT staffer Imran Awan allegedly uploaded terabits of information from DNC servers to a private Dropbox account.

Circa reports that Imran Awan, the former IT staffer for Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) and other Congressional Democrats arrested for possible bank fraud and theft of government property, is now being investigated over possibly selling sensitive information to foreign governments. Circa alleges Awan transferred massive amounts of information, including government documents and emails, to his own private Dropbox account, allowing him to access the information even after he was blocked from DNC networks.

A senior House official told Circa that Awan was uploading “terabits of information to Dropbox so he was possibly able to access the information even after he was banned from the network.” The House official claimed that they believe a full congressional investigation should be performed on the transfer of the data. “I think this may lead to information as to who really accessed the DNC server,” said the official. “Everybody talks about Russia – but look at the access (Awan) had and potentially those emails could have been sold.”

The report also claims Awan allegedly transferred files on House Democrats to a secret server attached to the House Democratic Caucus. At the time, the organization was chaired by Rep. Xavier Becerra, who left Congress in January when he was sworn in as Attorney General of California.

“There is no reason to accommodate all the members’ data on one server and one that was apparently hidden,” a senior House official told Circa. “Why didn’t Xavier Becerra know this because it happened on his watch? Each member had their own server to protect against this and Awan intentionally tried to hide what he had done from investigators.”

Circa alleges police informed Becerra that the server was the subject of an investigation but received a falsified image of the server which they reportedly consider to be interference in a criminal investigation.

A former U.S. official reportedly told Circa that the case “could potentially be one of the largest security breaches involving members of Congress.”

“It has all the hallmarks of blackmail, spy craft – it’s hard to believe that this is plain old bank fraud,” the source claimed. “There is enormous concerns that they accessed information that could potentially put congressional members at threat of being blackmailed.”

THIS POST IS WAY OT. But, rather than anger some on here by beginning another thread, I'll post this here.

In October of this year the American public is scheduled to finally see the paperwork on the JFK killing.

Missing from the New JFK Files: Batch of CIA Records on Lee Harvey Oswald

The disappearing file feeds suspicions about the agency and the accused assassin.

By Jefferson Morley / AlterNet

September 1, 2017, 10:34 AM GMT

"All of the U.S. government's files on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy are supposed to be released by October 26. But one batch of CIA records on suspected assassin Lee Harvey Oswald has gone missing.

The records were part of a seven-volume file on Oswald held by the agency's Office of Security. The OS is responsible for protecting CIA property and vetting agency personnel, and maintains a file system independent of the CIA's Central File Registry. Declassified CIA records show that Volume 5 of the file records existed as recently as 1978.
The disappearance of the records, discovered by JFK researcher Malcolm Blunt, is significant because the Office of Security was the first component of the CIA to open a file on Oswald, an ex-Marine who defected to the Soviet Union in October 1959 and was later charged with killing JFK in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.

The official story that Oswald acted alone is widely disbelieved. President Lyndon Johnson, First Lady Jackie Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, French president Charles DeGaulle, and Cuban leader Fidel Castro all privately concluded that JFK was killed by his political enemies, not by a lone assassin.

As a result, conspiracy theories have proliferated over the years, including President Trump's bogus claim that Ted Cruz's father was involved.

New JFK files

The disappearing Oswald file is the latest in a series of remarkable revelations that news organizations have found in long-secret JFK assassination files made public for the first time by the National Archives in July.

WhoWhatWhy reported on documents showing that the mayor of Dallas at the time of JFK’s assassination, Earle Cabell, was a CIA asset in the 1950s. His brother, Charles Cabell, was a high-ranking CIA official until 1962.

While the documents don’t show that Earle or Charles Cabell had any connection to JFK’s assassination, they do illuminate that the CIA’s extraordinary penetration of domestic American institutions extended to the city where JFK was killed. If anyone had said over the last 50 years that the mayor of Dallas in 1963 was a CIA asset, they would been derided as a conspiracy theorist. Now we know for a fact that he was.

Ian Shapira of the Washington Post plumbed the new records to recount the secret interrogation of Yuri Nosenko, a KGB intelligence officer who defected to the United States in 1964. Nosenko was detained without charges for four years in what would now be called a CIA black site.

The Nosenko affair (celebrated by HBO) was a key chapter in the CIA’s reaction to JFK’s assassination. James Angleton, the powerful chief of counterintelligence, suspected Nosenko had been dispatched by the KGB to conceal the Soviet ties to Oswald and the assassination. The interrogation of the "foul traitor” Nosenko failed to confirm Angleton’s conspiracy theory, according to the Post.

Writing for Politico, professor Larry Sabato and journalist Philip Shenon reported that one new CIA file showed that in the mid-1970s, one of Angleton’s top lieutenants came to doubt the Warren Commission's finding that JFK was killed by Oswald, alone and unaided. Sabato and Shenon argue that the JFK investigation was “botched” and the possibility of a Cuban government involvement was ignored.

On AlterNet, I quoted extensively from the same records to show that the JFK investigation was not so much botched as "controlled’ by top CIA officials, including Angleton. The CIA made at least four false statements to investigators. The effect of these statements was to conceal what top CIA officers, including Angleton, knew of Oswald while JFK was still alive.

Collectively, the new JFK files pour more cold water on the “KGB did it” conspiracy theory, while encouraging questions about the “Castro done it’ theory. Mostly, the new files illuminate how the CIA resisted investigation of Oswald after JFK was killed, and why the public, and CIA officials themselves, came to reject the official story of a lone gunman.

Officials of the National Archives have told AlterNet they will release thousands of pages of additional secret JFK records before October 26.

Disappearing Act

Given the recent revelations, the disappearance of part of Oswald's first CIA file is curious, if not suspicious.

The handling of information about Oswald before the assassination shows that he was a figure of deep and constant interest to Angleton and his staff in the four years before JFK was killed. So conspiracy theories notwithstanding, Oswald’s CIA security file is historically significant.

As I show in my forthcoming biography of Angleton, the opening of Oswald’s Office of Security file in December 1959 was an unusual deviation from standard CIA procedures,

Standard procedure, as prescribed in agency directives, required agency personnel to immediately open a personality file (in government lingo, a “201” file) on a military defector like Oswald. Yet the CIA's 201 file on Oswald was not opened until a year later, in December 1960. During that year, the OS file was controlled by Betty Egerter, an aide to Angleton.

The CIA didn’t share this fact with JFK investigators in the 1964. When congressional investigators discovered the delay in 1978, neither Angleton nor his boss, deputy CIA director Richard Helms, could explain it.

Testifying under oath to Congress in October 1978, Angleton pleaded ignorance.

"I don't know the circumstances," he said, which was almost certainly not true. Angleton did know the circumstances of Oswald's defection because it was reported in the Washington Poston Oct. 31, 1959 and his aides discussed it.

"I don't know why it would take that long," Angleton said.

"I can’t imagine why it would have taken an entire year," Helms sputtered in September 1978. "I am amazed...I can’t explain that."

The anomalies and deceptions that surround the handling of Oswald’s file suggest that the ex-Marine Corps radio operator was used, wittingly or unwittingly, for a CIA intelligence purpose before he was arrested for killing Kennedy. Whether that intelligence purpose was part of a conspiracy to kill the liberal president, or a cosmic miscalculation of certain CIA officers interested in Oswald is a matter of debate.

Two days after his arrest, Oswald was killed in police custody by Jack Ruby, a nightclub owner with organized crime connections.

Obfuscation

In an email to AlterNet, Blunt, a retired British mental health professional with deep knowledge of the internal workings of the CIA in the 1960s, calls the disappearance of the records "obfuscation for a reason." "It had to be done because of an interest — undisclosed and unknown — in Mr. Oswald's records.”

By law, the missing volume of Oswald's OS file, if it exists, has to be made public by Oct. 26, 2017 the day all of the government's JFK files are supposed to be made public. But does it exist?

The CIA's story—that Vol. 5—never existed, is dubious. The OS volume is known to have existed in the 1970s because a declassified record found by Blunt shows that CIA officials and congressional investigators had access to it.

“The attached notes were taken by Betsy Wolf, a staffer with the House Select Committee on Assassination who received Volumes 1-4 and 1/2 of Volume 5 of Lee Harvey Oswald’s security file,” an unnamed CIA official wrote in 2012. Obviously, Wolf could not have received half of Volume 5 if it didn't exist.

Wolf's sketchy notes cite only the numbers of CIA documents, but say nothing about their contents.

Blunt asks the right question, which only the CIA can answer:

"Sometime between the HSCA closure in 1979 and the late surfacing of those files in 1997, one volume, Vol. 5 disappeared. This beggars the question; for what possible reason? The intact files were previously given to both the SSCIA [Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Activities] and the HSCA, so why did the CIA ‘not find them’ until a direct, specific request from the ARRB in 1997? And then, why turn them over minus volume 5?""

A CIA Tutorial: How to Avoid Providing Files

aarclibrary.org

13 SEPTEMBER, 2017 © 2017 – Bill Simpich

With the October releases coming up, we should keep in mind what the ARRB has already told us we will not find.

For those of us who research the Mexico City story, it has always been very frustrating to find that there is no organized way to find the cables and dispatches between Mexico City and Headquarters, or between these two entities and JMWAVE in Miami, except within carefully circumscribed dates.

What we have run into amounts to a CIA tutorial on how to avoid providing information that is mandated under the law.

As shown below, the listing of files for JMWAVE begins on November 21, and the listing of files for HQ and Mexico City begins on October 1. Very unhelpful for putting together the Oswald story, as well as the events prior to the assassination in Miami.

But not all of the files are missing. A number of the files within this timeframe do exist – simply in a less organized format. Many memos are tucked away in various other files, such as the files on Cuban consul Eusebio Azcue in CIA microfilm, Reel 2.

In fact, it is probable that most or all of these files could have been provided by the CIA if they had simply cross-indexed the files within their own Records Integration Division.

The National Archives has the duty to index the files themselves, and send a demand to the CIA for the missing files. The Act is in effect until “the Archivist certifies to the President and the Congress that all assassination-related records have been made available to the public in accordance with this Act.”

This is yet another reason we need a new JFK Records Act with stronger enforcement powers.

From the ARRB Final Report in 1999:

The Review Board deemed these gaps to be significant because both CIA stations played roles in U.S. operations against Cuba.

The cable traffic that the Review Board reviewed in the CIA’s sequestered collection commences on October 1, 1963, and contains the earliest known communication—an October 8, 1963, cable—between the Mexico City Station and CIA Headquarters concerning Lee Harvey Oswald.

In 1995, the Review Board submitted a formal request for additional information

regarding the above-referenced gaps in CIA cable traffic. CIA did not locate additional

traffic for the specified periods. CIA completed its response to this request in February"

Fox News Seeks to Dismiss Lawsuit Over Seth Rich Reporting

adweek.com | on Sep. 19, 2017 - 7:42 AM

By Chris Ariens on Sep. 19, 2017 - 7:42 AM

"Six weeks after Fox News analyst Rod Wheeler sued the channel, as well as reporter Malia Zimmerman and others, for defamation, the network is firing back seeking to dismiss the suit.

Wheeler, a private investigator and Fox crime analyst, is also suing Ed Butowsky, who was bankrolling an investigation into the murder of DNC staffer Seth Rich.

Fox News reporter Malia Zimmerman wrote a now-retracted story about Rich’s murder. Wheeler claims he was misquoted in that story, and made several other claims, including:

Butowsky and Zimmerman hoped that, if they could shift the blame for the DNC hacks from the Russians to Seth Rich, this would undermine reports of collusion between Russia and the Trump Administration.

“Plaintiff’s Complaint is overloaded with sensationalistic allegations that have nothing whatsoever to do with this cause of action,” Fox says in their statement. “The irrelevant allegations about an attempted cover-up relating to Russian involvement in the Democratic National Committee (“DNC”) email hacking scandal, the firing of FBI director James Comey, and Rupert Murdoch’s bid for European media conglomerate Sky plc, should be ignored.”

Wheeler’s attorney is Douglas Wigdor who is also representing several current and former Fox employees and contributors in their lawsuits against the company, including anchor Kelly Wright who sued claiming racial discrimination, and Scottie Nell Hughes a former political contributor who, just yesterday, sued, claiming FBN anchor Charles Payne sexually assaulted and raped her."

Fox Presses for Arbitration or Dismissal in Suit Over Seth Rich Article

By EMILY STEELSEPT. 19, 2017

nytimes.com | Sept. 19, 2017

"Fox News and its parent company, 21st Century Fox, have filed a motion to move the defamation and racial discrimination lawsuit involving a Fox News article about the death of a young Democratic aide from a New York federal court to arbitration.

In the alternative, Fox said that the lawsuit should be dismissed, calling the claims “without merit and legally insufficient” and saying that the “defamation claim is itself founded on a falsehood.”

The lawsuit was filed in August by Rod Wheeler, a private detective who was hired by the family of the aide, Seth Rich, to look into his death. Mr. Wheeler said in the suit that the network fabricated quotations from him in an article about Mr. Rich on FoxNews.com. The article was retracted after it was published, with the network saying it did not meet its standards.

Mr. Wheeler, who is a Fox News contributor, claimed in the suit that the network was aware that he had not said the statements yet it published them “with reckless disregard for their truth.” Mr. Wheeler also asserted that he was a pawn in a broader scheme by the White House, a Trump supporter named Ed Butowsky and Fox News to “shift the blame from Russia and help put to bed speculation that President Trump colluded with Russia in an attempt to influence the outcome of the presidential election.”

The lawsuit, charging defamation and racial discrimination, was filed Aug. 1 in the United States District Court in the Southern District of New York. It named Fox News, 21st Century Fox, Mr. Butowsky and the author of the article, Malia Zimmerman, as defendants.

In the court filing, made on Monday, Fox said that the lawsuit should be submitted for arbitration, given that Mr. Wheeler’s contract with the network “requires that he submit to arbitration any claims ‘arising out of or related to’ his agreement.”

Douglas Wigdor, a lawyer for Mr. Wheeler, said that the company was trying to force the case out of the public spotlight. “Fox’s effort to compel this legal proceeding into a confidential arbitration process is an attempt at keeping people in the dark on what now is a matter of serious public concern,” Mr. Wigdor said in a statement."

MORE OT JFK:

25th JFK Assassination Secrets Scheduled for 2017 Release

time.com

The tortured path that began with a left turn onto Dealey Plaza on Nov. 22, 1963, will find its unlikely end point this October in College Park, Md. At a National Archives annex, the last remaining documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy are being processed, scanned and readied for release.

For those who believe that the clues to who killed JFK are hidden somewhere deep inside the government's files, this may be the last chance to find the missing pieces. Under the terms of the 1992 JFK Records Act--a result of Oliver Stone's 1991 movie JFK, which revived fascination with the idea of a cover-up--the government was given 25 years to make public all related files. The time is up on Oct. 26, 2017. About 3,000 never-before-seen documents, along with 34,000 previously redacted files, are scheduled for release.

The files--many of which trace back to the House Select Committee on Assassinations from the 1970s--promise to be less about second shooters and grassy knolls and more about what the government, particularly the CIA, might have known about assassin Lee Harvey Oswald before Kennedy's death. (The CIA declined to comment for this story, and the FBI did not respond to a request.) Already, the law has helped fill out one of the most significant periods of the 20th century, revealing information on military plots to invade Cuba; Kennedy's plans to execute a withdrawal of U.S. forces from Vietnam; and the formation of the Warren Commission, which investigated the assassination.

According to the National Archives, the final batch includes information on the CIA's station in Mexico City, where Oswald showed up weeks before JFK's death; 400 pages on E. Howard Hunt, the Watergate burglary conspirator who said on his deathbed that he had prior knowledge of the assassination; and testimony from the CIA's James Angleton, who oversaw intelligence on Oswald. The documents could also provide information on a CIA officer named George Joannides, who directed financial dealings with an anti-Castro group whose members had a public fight with Oswald on the streets of New Orleans in the summer of 1963.

But Martha Murphy, who oversees the effort at the National Archives, warns that many of the documents may be of little value. She believes that any potentially revelatory information, like Oswald's CIA file, has already been released--

For curious observers, even irrelevant documents are better than nothing--and nothing is still a possibility. The law says that if an agency doesn't want certain files made public, it can appeal to the President, who could decide to hold them back after all. That has prompted almost two dozen authors, academics and former ARRB members to write to the White House counsel urging that all documents be released.

E. Howard Hunt
St. John Hunt

The Last Confession of E. Howard Hunt

By Erik Hedegaard
Rolling Stone

"Once, when the old spymaster thought he was dying, his eldest son came to visit him at his home in Miami. The scourges recently had been constant and terrible: lupus, pneumonia, cancers of the jaw and prostate, gangrene, the amputation of his left leg. It was like something was eating him up. Long past were his years of heroic service to the country.

In the CIA, he'd helped mastermind the violent removal of a duly elected leftist president in Guatemala and assisted in subterfuges that led to the murder of Che Guevara. But no longer could you see in him the suave, pipe-smoking, cocktail-party-loving clandestine operative whose Cold War exploits he himself had, almost obsessively, turned into novels, one of which, East of Farewell, the New York Times once called "the best sea story" of World War II. Diminished too were the old bad memories, of the Bay of Pigs debacle that derailed his CIA career for good, of the Watergate Hotel fiasco, of his first wife's death, of thirty-three months in U.S. prisons – of, in fact, a furious lifetime mainly of failure, disappointment and pain. But his firstborn son – he named him St. John; Saint, for short – was by his side now. And he still had a secret or two left to share before it was all over.

They were in the living room, him in his wheelchair, watching Fox News at full volume, because his hearing had failed too. After a while, he had St. John wheel him into his bedroom and hoist him onto his bed. It smelled foul in there; he was incontinent; a few bottles of urine under the bed needed to be emptied; but he was beyond caring. He asked St. John to get him a diet root beer, a pad of paper and a pen.

Saint had come to Miami from Eureka, California, borrowing money to fly because he was broke. Though clean now, he had been a meth addict for twenty years, a meth dealer for ten of those years and a source of frustration and anger to his father for much of his life. There were a couple of days back in 1972, after the Watergate job, when the boy, then eighteen, had risen to the occasion. The two of them, father and son, had wiped fingerprints off a bunch of spy gear, and Saint had helped in other ways, too. But as a man, he had two felony convictions to his name, and they were for drugs. The old spymaster was a convicted felon too, of course. But that was different. He was E. Howard Hunt, a true American patriot, and he had earned his while serving his country. That the country repaid him with almost three years in prison was something he could never understand, if only because the orders that got him in such trouble came right from the top; as he once said, "I had always assumed, working for the CIA for so many years, that anything the White House wanted done was the law of the land."

Years had gone by when he and St. John hardly spoke. But then St. John came to him wanting to know if he had any information about the assassination of President Kennedy. Despite almost universal skepticism, his father had always maintained that he didn't. He swore to this during two government investigations. "I didn't have anything to do with the assassination, didn't know anything about it," he said during one of them. "I did my time for Watergate. I shouldn't have to do additional time and suffer additional losses for something I had nothing to do with."

But now, in August 2003, propped up in his sickbed, paper on his lap, pen in hand and son sitting next to him, he began to write down the names of men who had indeed participated in a plot to kill the president. He had lied during those two federal investigations. He knew something after all. He told St. John about his own involvement, too. It was explosive stuff, with the potential to reconfigure the JFK-assassination-theory landscape. And then he got better and went on to live for four more years.

They sure don't make white House bad guys the way they used to. Today you've got flabby-faced half-men like Karl Rove, with weakling names like "Scooter" Libby, blandly hacking their way through the constraints of the U.S. Constitution, while back then, in addition to Hunt, you had out-and-out thugs like G. Gordon Liddy, his Watergate co-conspirator and Nixon's dirty-tricks chief, who would hold his own hand over an open flame to prove what a real tough guy he was. It all seems a little nutty now, but in 1972 it was serious business. These guys meant to take the powers of the presidency and run amok. Hunt, an ex-CIA man who loved operating in the shadows and joined Nixon's Special Investigations Unit (a.k.a. "the Plumbers" as a $100-a-day consultant in 1971, specialized in political sabotage. Among his first assignments: forging cables linking the Kennedy administration to the assassination of South Vietnam's president. After that, he began sniffing around Ted Kennedy's dirty laundry, to see what he could dig up there. Being a former CIA man, he had no problem contemplating the use of firebombs and once thought about slathering LSD on the steering wheel of an unfriendly newspaperman's car, hoping it would leach into his skin and cause a fatal accident. But of all his various plots and subterfuges, in the end, only one of them mattered: the failed burglary at the Watergate Hotel, in Washington, D.C., in the spring of 1972.

The way it happened, Hunt enlisted some Cuban pals from his old Bay of Pigs days to fly up from Miami and bug the Democratic National Committee headquarters, which was located inside the Watergate. Also on the team were a couple of shady ex-government operators named James McCord and Frank Sturgis. The first attempt ended when the outfit's lock picker realized he'd brought the wrong tools. The next time, however, with Hunt stationed in a Howard Johnson's hotel room across the way, communicating with the burglars by walkie-talkie, the team gained entry into the office. Unfortunately, on the way into the building, they'd taped open an exit door to allow their escape, and when a night watchman found it, he called the cops. The burglars were arrested on the spot. One of them had E. Howard's phone number, at the White House, no less, in his address book. Following this lead, police arrested Hunt and charged him with burglary, conspiracy and wiretapping. Abandoned by his bosses at the White House, he soon began trying to extort money from them to help pay his mounting bills, as well as those of his fellow burglars, the deal being that if the White House paid, all those arrested would plead guilty and maintain silence about the extent of the White House's involvement.

That December, his wife, Dorothy, carrying $10,000 in $100 bills, was killed in a plane crash, foul play suspected but never proved. Two years later, impeachment imminent, Nixon resigned his presidency. And in 1973, E. Howard Hunt, the man who had unwittingly set all these events in motion, pleaded guilty and ultimately spent thirty-three months in prison. "I cannot escape feeling," he said at the time, "that the country I have served for my entire life and which directed me to carry out the Watergate entry is punishing me for doing the very things it trained and directed me to do."

House IT Worker At Center Of Scandal Allegedly Abused Three Muslim Women

"Multiple women in relationships with Imran Awan, the indicted former IT aide for Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, have recently called Virginia law enforcement and alleged being abused by him, police reports obtained under Virginia’s Freedom of Information Act show.

Officers found one of the women bloodied and she told them she “just wanted to leave,” while the second said she felt like a “slave,” according to Fairfax County Police reports obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group. A third woman claimed she was being kept “in captivity.”

The third woman is Awan’s stepmother, Samina Gilani, who said in court documents that Awan invoked his authority as a congressional employee to intimidate immigrant women, in part by telling them he had the power to have people kidnapped.

All but two of the nearly two dozen Democratic women Awan worked for in the House declined to comment on the police reports.

Wasserman Schultz, the former Democratic National Committee chairwoman, refused to fire Awan for months after his Feb. 2, 2017 banishment from the House computer network due to his being a suspect in a criminal investigation by the FBI and U.S. Capitol Police into a major cybersecurity breach.

Wasserman Schultz said that “as a mother, a Jew, and a member of Congress,” she wanted to defend his rights, a sentiment echoed by Rep. Marcia Fudge, an Ohio Democrat. Rep. Gregory Meeks, a New York Democrat. Wasserman Schultz also claimed allegations against Awan might stem from Islamophobia. All three women are Muslim.

Awan’s attorney, Chris Gowen, a former aide to Bill and Hillary Clinton, has blasted journalists covering the investigation. The press “should be reminded that Imran Awan is a husband and a father, not a political pawn,” Gowen said.

Awan’s attorneys declined to comment to TheDCNF on the police reports.

Neither of the other two women who complained are married to Awan, though both were apparently in relationships with him. Awan’s wife, Hina Alvi, worked as an IT aide for dozens of members of Congress, including Wasserman Schultz. The two women who called the police both lived in the same Alexandria, Va., complex but in different apartments for which Imran paid.

A crying Salam Chaudry called police in December 2015 to the Manitoba Apartment complex for a “domestic dispute,” according to a Fairfax County police report."

BREAKING: Crowdstrike Payments Coincide With Deaths Of Seth Rich, Shawn Lucas

Elizabeth Vos

Disobedient Media | September 21, 2017

A breaking report from America First Media Group appears to show that payments made to private cyber security firm Crowdstrike coincided with the dates of two mysterious deaths, including the unsolved murder of Seth Rich and the death of process server Shawn Lucas.

Disobedient Media previously reported on Shawn Lucas’ death, which occurred shortly after he attempted to serve former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz with papers regarding the DNC Fraud Lawsuit. Attorneys for the plaintiffs in that case later sought protection from the court, and in doing so had cited both Seth Rich and Shawn Lucas’ deaths, as well as that of Beranton Whisenant Jr. and others.

In their report, America First Media Group shows that the first payments made were preemptive measures on May 5th, 2016. They add that the next payment to Crowdstrike, totaling $98,849.84, took place on July 11th.

Their report specifically stated that:

“The relationship to this date happens to be the day after DNC Data Director of New Voter Registration Seth Rich was murdered.”

The report indicates: “The final payment to date is August 3rd, 2016. This coincides with another murder in the District of Columbia. Shawn Lucas, who died on August 2nd of last year, was the DNC Process Server and close friend of Seth Rich.”

That Lucas and Rich were friends is an extremely important and noteworthy detail, and may provide some connection between their deaths which has not previously been considered. If true it is an extremely new detail in the context of their deaths and the political furor surrounding both men.

Image via America First Media Group

Disobedient Media has provided ongoing coverage of Crowdstrike, including their connection to George Soros via the Atlantic Council. We have also extensively reported on the groundbreaking work of Adam Carter, who has raised strong concerns regarding Crowdstrike’s possible role in the creation of the Guccifer 2.0 persona and possible fabrication of Russian hacking in coordination with the DNC. Carter has specifically reported on the possibility that former Assistant FBI Director Shawn Henry, currently the President of Crowdstrike, as well as Dmitri Alperovitch, the company’s co-founder and CTO.

If the latest reports from America First Media Group are proven to be substantial, it would be monumental not only in terms of shedding light on the circumstances of two untimely deaths, but also in revealing the machinations of a firm who seems intimately involved with the DNC power structure and who may have been involved in the fabrication of one of the greatest political scandals in recent memory.

BREAKING: Seth Rich Hush Money?

"During the 2016 Presidential Election, the biggest story became how Russia “hacked” the election. The “17 intelligence agencies” that Hillary Rodham Clinton cited all relied on word from a contracted company, Crowdstrike.

Crowdstrike is a technology company that specializes in cyber-security. Not only is there conflict of interest with Crowdstrike receiving payments, campaign data shows some incredible correlations with the payments that were made.

All payments cited below are part of the Federal Election Committee data of campaign spending on the http://www.fec.gov website.

The first payments made were preemptive measures on May 5th, 2016 when the DNC was looking to figure out where the breach of security was. Payments made on May 5th, 2016 of $7,650.00 and $1,462.50 were likely paid for Crowdstrike to install their Falcon software, a stellar technology security suite that would identify any internal or external security breach.

The final email on Wikileaks from the DNC is dated May 25th, 2016. Crowdstrike would have had complete knowledge of the party that ripped the emails from the server.

The next payment that was made to Crowdstrike occurred on July 11th, 2016 for the amount of $98,849.84. The relationship to this date happens to be the day after DNC Data Director of New Voter Registration Seth Rich was murdered.

The final payment to date is August 3rd, 2016. This coincides with another murder in the District of Columbia. Shawn Lucas, who died on August 2nd of last year, was the DNC Process Server and close friend of Seth Rich. The payment on August 3rd included two checks, one for $113,645.77 and the other for $4,275.00.

We find it highly coincidental that both of these payments came within 24 hours of two high profile murders in Washington D.C., which both have connection to the DNC."

Updates:
The initial and final payment was referring to Technology Consulting and Technology Infrastructure Maintenance, linked here. It does not include the licensing of the software under the description of Data Services Subscription.

Seth Rich Update: TV Ad With Russian Subtitles Questions DNC Staffer’s Murder

By Max Kutner On 9/23/17 at 7:00 AM

Newsweek

"A television spot asking viewers for information about the 2016 death of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich will launch soon in Washington, D.C. As theories circulate around the unsolved death, the spot will include Russian subtitles.

“There’s reason to believe that there could be a Russian connection, so what we did was we wanted to tap into everything,” says a spokesman for Jack Burkman, a Republican lobbyist who funded the ad. “If in fact there is a Russian connection—and people haven’t been able to rule out it’s still a possibility—we thought it would be a good idea to reach out to them.”

Rich, 27, was fatally shot in July 2016 while walking home late at night in Washington. Police have said they believe the incident was a botched robbery. But because Rich worked for the Democratic National Committee, and because WikiLeaks published thousands of emails from the committee less two weeks after his death, people have speculated that Rich provided the materials to WikiLeaks and that his death was perhaps an attempt to prevent him from doing so or to punish him for it. Since then, Fox News’s Sean Hannity, the Russian embassy in London, the Internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom, who the U.S. Department of Justice has accused of illegal activity, and others have pushed forward the theory. Rich’s parents have called for such claims to stop.

Burkman, the lobbyist behind the TV spot, announced last September that he would offer $100,000 to anyone who solves the killing. He also launched the Profiling Project, a team working to solve the case. “The objective here really is just to get closure for this family,” Burkman told Newsweek in 2016. He added, “You certainly can’t rule out any theories, or at least you shouldn’t.” In June, the Profiling Project released an 83-page report claiming that the person who murdered Rich was probably “a hired killer or serial murderer.” A spokesman for the Rich family disputed the findings.

The 30-second spot will have its debut on Tuesday in Washington and appear later in other markets, according to the spokesman for Burkman. Newsweek obtained an early copy of the ad, and it shows Burkman speaking into the camera about the case and imploring viewers to visit the website Who Killed Seth. The website has information for sending tips to Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department. The Russian subtitles appear throughout the ad. Burkman is holding a press conference on Monday in Washington to discuss the ad."
