Some shots from my last gig...

Postby Darcy » Wed Feb 17, 2021 6:58 pm

Figured I'd share some shots from my last gig (don't ask where). Had a hoot, got a tattoo from a SEAL (only his 4th - its a tarpon, my spirit fish -caught tons flying for the Trinidad & Tobago Government these past four years till COVID kiboshed that job), flew lots, plenty of hoisting... Contract is now over so maybe some Canadian bush work for the summer then I'm slotted to fly helos for a Korean Research team in Antarctica next fall. Figured RYP would like to see his HEST4 in use (on my flak vest). Opened a few Amazon packages and cut some bait...

Better shot of the DPx, a still from someone's GoPro on their chest...

Splurged on a Randall Airman for my next job, saw a few there, plus a few Winklers, ESEE5s and Emersons. Surprisingly quite a few knife guys, one Dude had at least four on him at any one time....

I am basically autistic when it comes to dials and switches.

I would bug the hell out of you asking you what everything in the control panel did.

cool photos!

It's not so bad. More modern aircraft, like this AW139 I was recently flying, has an easier presentation (I was in the jump seat giving these two lad a check ride in Tanzania);

There's two of everything so either pilot can fly. You got an artificial horizon so you can tell which is up regardless if you can see out the windows or not, an airspeed, a up/down rate gauge, altitude above sea level and above ground, some navigation instrumentation, engine (two engines so two of everything; torques, rpms, oil temps and pressures, etc) and transmission parameters, systems monitoring (hydraulic, electrical), a bunch of fuel management stuff, then all your radios (tactical and ATC, etc), SAT Phone, weather radar... looks like a lot but its not when you get used to it. I prefer the ole S61 panel up top...Gentleman's Aircraft.

Another shot of the Italian AW139 panel. I was flying the Air Guard birds for the Trinidad & Tobago Government for four years. Miss that job something fierce. Stupid COVID...

Nice pictures. I take it none of the red buttons fire missiles ;-)

I wish! Biggest weapon I was allowed to carry was a Swiss Army knife. (Well, I did have my HEST 4, and now, my Randall Airman, but no firearms)

Check out these two bad boys; (lots of the Team 6 guys carry the Winkers)

Randall Airman and Winkler Hunter

LOL but you still get to hum "ride of the valkyries" under your breath? jk

RYP should send you a freebie knife of his, what with you one of the few posters here to have actual DP cred.

Been carrying his folders forever. I have one shot using it, trying to get the battery out of a GPS unit in the Western Sahara (Islamic Republic of Mauritania I think)...

My DPx HEST 4s are well used. Love that Billy Waugh designed it;
