There is already a conspiracy theory about this.

The theory is that "someone on the inside" disabled the cameras.

The real reason is that NYPD merged with the NYCT Transit Police years ago and NYPD took Transit PD responsibilities. But the Cameras are NYPD property on NYCT networks. So NYPD says "it's not our problem" and NYCT says "It is too your problem but is not our problem"

And then no one maintains the Cameras.

So theory that someone teamed up with the shooter and disabled the cameras is out there and saying "hey, that's not true, I work with these systems" makes them more suspicious.

Of course. Cops tend to be lazy and like to fudge things and cut corners wwhen it comes to everyday maintenance of routine matters and equipment.

What they need is someone in the police department to run the task of the subway cameras who isn’t shy about nagging the shit out of them.
