I met Roslyn Carter when I was 9

My dad was president of the Wisconsin Democratic Party then and he was friends with Governor Martin Schreiber. I am not even sure why she was in my hometown but it was for some political thing. I think she may have been Campaigning for Schreiber since he was appointed Governor after Patrick Lucey became ambassador to Mexico.

I was using my Dad's political connections to lobby for a Fox Snake to become Wisconsin's state Reptile. Gov. Schreiber explained to me that since he was friends with my dad it was not proper for him to push my State Reptile idea and I had to write to my Assemblyman and our State Senator (a pretty good early lesson on avoiding corruption).

So when Roslyn Carter came to speak, Gov. Schreiber introduced me to her as "This is Erik and he likes snakes" and she shook my hand, really, really softly and said "I think snakes are lovely".
