Venezuela x Guyana

Postby pyrohydra » Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:45 pm

I wonder if Maduro is really enough of a moron to think that he can pull this off.
Perhaps Putin gave him some promises? But what can Russia do while still bogged down in Ukraine?
Maybe the point is to give the U.S. another shit show to deal with in addition to Israel/Gaza, so that more U.S. support to Ukraine will be diverted.

That is gonna be a "Ukraine? What Ukraine?" type distraction.

Brazil isn't gonna go for it. Colombia isn't either.

This issue was settled in 1895 and 1966 as well.

Venezuela is dumb enough to believe war boosts the economy too.
Imagine a world war in South America?

It did not go well for Paraguay when they tried:

Instead of seizing Guyana's newly discovered oil resources, maybe Venezuela should fire all of the incompetent political cronies Maduro and Chavez put in place to manage / loot their oil industry after they nationalized everything. Their oil production is 1/4 what it was before the commies took over, despite having the world's largest proven reserves.
I'd whore myself out just one more time if I knew who to screw to get out of this grind.

Hoping it settles out and imagine it will. US announced joint exercises with Guyana earlier this week, so they are definitely sticking their nose in. I'm headed down to Guyana in January/February with the Trinidad & Tobago government again. Got my old gig back!

Definitely! First thing I did was call my old Trini fishing buddies then dig out my heavy salt water gear :)

Local fisherman are more fun to fish with than guides, just have to make some friends and provide the doubles and beer. Mostly the north coast of Trinidad. I hope to get into Arapaima in Guyana. I looked into it when I was kicking around the jungles of Suriname years ago but the daily rates were kind of insane. I hope to get settled then try the local/self-guided route. Not sure how much time I'll spending where when I get back down there, depends on where work sends me.

These Jacks are the most fun I've ever had fishing down there...

But the king mackerel and wahoo, etc are good eating. I had a freezer full when things shut down a few years back
