Shoe String the Hobo has passed away

Postby Devlin » Mon Apr 08, 2024 4:43 am

I would check out this guy's Youtube videos every now and then. He went missing and was found dead. He had a lot of people who would ride along on his adventures. Just an old school hobo riding the rails.

Yikes

"Silver Alert" for a 53 year old. Makes me feel old.

I think this guy did Crust Punk zines back in the mid 90s. I seem to remember the name. IMO the Hobo Top Tips have been:

1. Clorox Bleach Bottle for drinking water rather than anything else. Clorox Bottles are tougher than any commercial canteens.
2. Sleep feet first the way you are traveling so in case of a crash or sudden stop you do not break your neck.

Also, this guy was my grandma's second cousin.

That one Simpson's Episode where Mr. Burns goes broke and then starts a new business recycling litter and gets rich doing it ..that's what Monte Holm did. KInda, He went from Shepherd Hobo to buying scrap metal from other Hobos to be a junk buying and selling millionaire.

I thought he was older. That is a rough 53.

I traveled the world in the mid 90's as a roadie for a band that catered to the Crust crowd.

This guy does lots of hobo stuff

What Truck Stops did you end up at?

I might have given your crew some cash.

If you were hanging out on Melrose in LA anytime from 1995 to 1998 then we might have crossed paths.

I looked like a Grunge Garth from Wayne's World and probably said "No, seriously, I am a truck driver and I get a Per Diem so heres some beer money"

Also if you crashed at Nottingham COOP in Madison then we at least met the same people.

I was a roadie for Assuck from about 93-96. Did the Westcoast a few times, east coast many, Europe and Japan. Did Gilman Street, epicenter records in S.F. a punk house or two in Portland and Eugne, a house in Seattle , even a parking lot in El Paso. Only two shows that I remember in L.A., one at the Roxey with Fear Factory, long story on that and then some small dive outside of it somewhere.

Cause we were in Florida, the west coast was just very hard to pull off.

The stuff out there was done with Man is the Bastard, Spazz, Capitalist Casualties.

Same story with Sam Schnitzer. Got his start picking up cans on the side of the road. His offspring work but certainly don't need to. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radius_Recycling
