jz fkin chst! This has to be the most viewed thread on the flag...

Watches are a guy thing buy plenty and wear them for each purpose. My favorite road watch is the faux Timex Army, Now selling at an outrageous $30 bucks. They used to be 15

They glow in the dark and you can give em away to your favorite donkey wallah.

That's because you've changed which favorite watch you like about 18 times.

Been using a Suunto Vector and an Suunto Core the past week with good results - a lot of neat functions. But if anyone is thinking about getting one - make sure they get one with a POSITIVE face rather than a negative one.

I want a watch with a slide rule. Breitling makes a cool one.

I have a four-ish year old Luminox for diving and everyday type stuff. It has held up pretty well, battery still hasn't needed changing. The casing is too thick to wear under a long sleeved shirt though, so for dressier situations I have a Fossil.

I like the new Tissot T-Touch watches though. They seem pretty cool.

My perfect watch would have the following characteristics:

-Slide rule
-Dual time
-Barometer with three day memory
-Countdown timer
-Chronograph
-Water resistant to 100 metres
-Compass with declination adjustment
-Light (Indiglo type)
-Alarm
-Day/Date
-Geiger counter

Moon phase and tide table would be nice, but not a requirement.

Timex has a new watch coming out called the WS4. I'm curious to see if this thing is worth a shit, as some of their e-instruments are crap.

At the expense of appearing ignorant, what exactly is the purpose of a "slide rule"?

It allows one to quickly perform all sorts of calculations. What I would use it for most is time/speed/distance calculations where one of the three is an unknown. I can do that much quicker with a slide rule than I can with a calculator (although in fairness, I use a slide rule made specifically for these calculations). Here is one type of slide rule I use for time/speed/distance:

And here is another type of slide rule for general calculations:

Finally, here is a watch with a slide rule:

Here is the Wikipedia page on slide rules:
