IMHO looking bold makes your life much safer than looking poor. In most places. For the few exceptions I put the watch in my pants. BTW Transafrica countries like Angola and Niger were NOT an exception. However, Johannesburg IS a place where I hide my watch at night.

You are right about the service intervals. This has become a real problem with the Breitling Emergency. The price has been doubled to € 300 (!!!), every two and a half years.

In addition, I have been told, the 121,5 MHz frequency emergency system will be altered and further reduce the value of that watch. I was already looking for an alternative, but haven't found one.

surely Breitling can drop in a new emitter during a servicing?
I know the law. And I have spent my entire life in its flagrant disregard.

The 121,5 MHz frequency will not be actively monitored by satellites anymore in less than a year.

There will be a new frequency set up at 406 MHz, but apparently Breitling cannot exchange the emergency watch module to that frequency.

And how much did you pay for this watch, and how long ago was that?

It retails at € 3.500. I paid € 2.700 about seven years ago.

What in the hell is a "transafrica country"? And yeah, your strategy worked so well for this ultra-rich visitor to Angola.

I'm not sure how Niger figures into a "western" route of Africa.

I'm also not sure how someone claiming to be posting from the capital of garish overpriced tastelessness feels justified in recommending others improve their own skills at such things.

Have a look at the map. Towards your left hand is what we call WEST.

So it's almost 10:09. Big deal. Nothing to see here, move along.

P.S. Nice compass ring sans compass. Form over function is okay sometimes, but form without function doesn't help Johnny get from A to B through the jungle when his coke plane loses its engine.

How about the emergency function in the Breitling? It can't get more functional than this, especially when Johnny's plane loses its engine!
