The forearm housing for the gas operating system is tremendously ugly.

Good gun porn.......

Trust me, any one of these old rifles will outshoot anything else at/beyond 300 yards. Its a design that has never been improved upon - and will teach the shooter to be a better marksman in the process, bolt action and requiring each shot be precisely sighted in.

My best? Dropping a wild jake turkey with Portuguese 1904/38 Verguiero (4th rifle from the left) at 350 yrds - clean headshot using iron sights.

oh, i'm sure the 556 is a fine rifle. but there is a civilian version of the 550 available for over a decade now. i just wonder why the 556 does have to look like something out of alien II.

The civilian version of the 550 also costs around $8000, minimum, at least in the United States. When the import ban came into effect in 1989, no new Sigs came in, so the price has gone up, up, up. The Sig 556 will have the same action as the 550, but will cost $1200 on up, depending on the model you get.

The guns at the SHOT show were just prototypes. I expect SIG to offer a folder version, and the ugly raised rail is detachable. The AR15 collapsible stocks were reportedly requested by police for use with body armor.

I'm defintely making plans to get one when they come out.

Okay so Mausers all look alike when you stand em on their head, whip out the bolt, check the bore and chamber a few rounds. So as a New Yorker you like Deck and the Outback better than Portuguese, Argentines, Persians, Czechs and Poles? I wont disagree with you on that, a man's house is his castle. And at certain parts of Kentucky you can shoot straight out yer back window.

maybe keep an eye on the prices of the 550's. these 556 just look like the marketing clowns have taken over the engineering dept.

the only issue i (not just me) ever had was that the gas tube took rust quickly in wet weather

and yes, they are as accurate and reliable as the legend goes.

have fun

Yorick, now now...........350 yards open sites on a silver dollar sized target? Mind you I'm not saying I DON'T believe it. It's just that, well, ......It's pretty unbelieveable. Unless you're Carlos Hathcock. In which case just scratch everything I said.

gunporn? brass and bras

Postby el3so » Sun Jan 10, 2010 12:07 pm

Just downloaded some fringe stuff involving nude ladies driving BMP AFVs, wrestling in mud and shooting big automatic firearms. (NSFW - review seems to be of another work of the fine arts) Has to been seen to be believed, one 'd expect people to observe some kind of dress-code considering the amount of spent casings flying...

And C, do chime in if you are out there.
