Sig Sauer Conversion

Postby Adam » Thu Aug 24, 2006 4:57 pm

(I originally posted this in the "Gear" forum as I didn't see a hyperlink to "Guns & Weapons" on the DP main page. Sorry!)

Anyone know about converting a SP2340 from double-action only back to a single/double? It looks like it costs about 120 bucks to have done, but do you really need a gunsmith?

I wouldn’t do it, that’s like changing the engine in a car. It will still run, but with some quirks.

Just sell your DAO and buy a new sig

Ask around at www.sigforums.com

They will probably tell you to go with the gunsmith. It's more than a simple action polishing job. I think there's also some fitting involved.

Alright. You've both conviced me to go to a gunsmith (and maybe sell the thing). I have a P228 that I love, but wanted to step up from the 9mm. The local police department is moving to glocks and unloaded the sigs at barely over $200. Many were just used for qualifying and only had a few hundred rounds put through them. I had a friend pick one up for me not even thinking that it might have been converted to DOA. Damn.

BTW, I've noticed a spike in interest in glocks in the last five years. I was under the impression that sig was top of the line, but so many departments are using glocks. Any idea why?

Glock is the best handgun out there. I hate the Glock or any gun that is not all steel, but that is just a personal preference.

At that price buy 3 and sell them on gunbroker.com then buy the Sig you want.

SIG is top of the line. But so is Glock, and at a lower price. SIG, Glock, H&K - all these deliver high performance that the average cop cannot make full use of anyway. So the choice is made via either personal preference or the price tag.

EDIT - good god, a SIG in fine condition for $250 *drool* I definitely have to change my fuckin whereabouts. I'm working on it.

A lot of Admin types in PDs see the GLock as "GI proof". They think their guy's won't keep their weapons properly cleaned/ oiled or that their city is so grungy that a sidearm like the Glock (which has a rep for firing even when not properly groomed and loved) is the anserw.

I have a sig 228 as well, just can't stand that first DA round.

I was not a big Glock fan until I was issued one. great gun, great price, they just keep shooting.
