Instinct/reactive/point shooting

It depends on the situation. If you have time to aim, fuckin' aim! If you don't and there are multiple threats, instinct shooting can be most effective. Also remember, that "point" or "instinct" shooting isn't something that you can just do. It takes a lot of practice to build the muscle memory and to become effective at it. Also, if you dont use it, you will lose it. Practice is the only way to maintain proficiency.
For a person who doesn't have the time or means to practice shooting every day, I would focus on a couple of things.

1. Readying your weapon. In the thick of things, when adrenaline is pumping through your veins and you are scared, readying your weapon might not be as easy as you think. Make sure your weapon is easily accessible, won't get caught on clothing, and that you can make it ready for use with minimal effort. Remember Murphy's Law...
2. Get familiar with your weapon. If you know, and are familiar with your weapon, you will be much more effective in using it. If you feel uncomfortable or unsure on its operation, you are much more likely to use it incorrectly, either hurting yourself or missing your intended target.
3. Practice using your weapon. Sign up for a shooting class. Practice makes perfect.
