I got a Deal...

Postby crotalus01 » Mon Jun 16, 2008 9:48 pm

A guy I work with was bitching about his pistol being too large for effective CC. I mentioned that I had a Taurus Millenium Pro .40 and he asked if he could see it. So he came over last night and brought his pistol, looked at my Taurus and asked if I would be willing to do a straight up swap, his gun for mine. I no longer have my Taurus. I traded it to him straight up - lock box, extra clip and key lock for his .40 Glock 22 with lock box, extra clip, bore lock and paddle retention holster :)
My taurus was a bit newer but they both have about the same number of rounds fired through them. All in all I am pretty happy with the trade.

You could have shot him and kept both guns.

Isn't there some sort of paper work the state needsdone for something like this?

I don't know about TN but in PA you can't go about a transaction of this sort legally without the state knowing about the transfer? Maybe somewhere in the post I missed where you two did this.

Personally I'd look into it just so you aren't liable in the event of something criminal happening with a gun you once owned or all sorts of legal variations on a theme.

Tennessee does not require any sort of registration on private transactions. As long as they both reside in the same state it's a legal transfer.

TH to TN resident so no need for an FFL to get involved. TN does not register guns, nor would I live in a state that did.

Damn well excuuuuuuuuuuse me!

No need for any rightous indignation.

I mean I'm totally positive the only reason you live in TN is the gun laws.

Job, family, and friends have squat to do with it.

Uh huh.

Now I fell like I live a lesser existence because I've given in to such compromise...just like in Canada or England for goodness sake!

The humiliation.....

....tell me about it.
If they'd let me have a closet full of pistols I'd be way less angry.
I know the law. And I have spent my entire life in its flagrant disregard.

No righteous indignation meant or implied. Yes, I live in TN because I was born here among other reasons; I was simply pointing out that if I were bornin, say, Chicago or D.C. I would have moved as soon as I turned 18. I am deadly serious about my 2A rights.

Virginia also does not require any paperwork on private transfers, but every year a bill is introduced to try to end that.

Anyway, good on you with the Glock...I think they're way better than any Taurus.
