Garrotes?

Postby Kevin » Mon Sep 08, 2008 11:51 pm

Does anyone on here own a garrote or are they illegal to own in most western nations?

Btw I'm talking about the small piano wire types not the large ones and also do they make professionally made ones?

Nah mate, I'm talking more along the line of something like this, I tired to get a picture of real life version of one these from the Second World War but it wouldn't work so this was the second best representation.

I think most anything would be better for self defense. A garrote is strictly for silent killing...

Using a garrote requires planning and execution well beyond that of "self-defense"...

Another Michael Hutchence fan crawls out of the woodwork.
I'm not really a proper reporter, due to the chronic lack of discipline, negligible attention span, and a certain juvenile difficulty taking serious things seriously.

I was thinking about that yesterday while running in the A/M. What would happen if a nasty animal came out and I had no tools to defend myself? I carry a bandana everywhere - maybe roll it up and choke the bastard? I quickly moved away from that idea because it was a shitty one. :-)

These are really only good for silently killing a sentry or something like that. You have to be really really good at sneaking up behind them first, even if they are asleep.
If you were, for example, trying to escape after being kidnapped, it would make sense. Any time you feel a need to carry one, you can usually make your own out of heavy duty fishline or something like that that doesn´t show up on x-ray machines or metal detectors.
Are they legal? Are two sticks and a piece of fishline legal? Sure. But if you are caught with it there will definitely be some questions to answer. Especially if they just found the body.
Do you really feel a need to carry one of these?
I have, a time or two, in high risk kidnapping zones. So far, haven't needed to use one. Thank God. Can you imagine the nightmares?

Why not learn to use a knife? You can throw it or just slice and dice. Messy, but gets the job done. If your worried about x-rays, get a CIA Letter opener.

Good for sewing things up, too, in a pinch. I even know some people who use it for cleaning their teeth.
