For easy/short hikes i use the Meindl Colorado boots and love them, they fit perfectly give great support, never get wet through the leather unless i soak them in water for hours and breate quite well. The only drawback is that if i have to wear crampons on them they crampons start to hurt after about 2 days of constant use.

I have a pair of Keen Blackcomb boots that are great - I use them for day hiking and snow shoeing. Light, but sturdy and comfy right out of the box. They make a men's version.

Another pair of boots that suprised me were the NB 851's.

Wore them all over the coast during Katrina and Rita and served me well.

These approach shoes are good because you can walk a long way in them, and they work well if you have to do some climbing.

I am wearing them here:

Ive gone through so many pairs of shoes its not funny.my last pair of Keen's were awfully hot and they fell to bits. Merrell are a popular brand but their shoes are junk.

The best boots I have are made by Salomon.

I would also recommend these:
