I need a new Mini-DV camera. Need advice

Postby Aussie TJS » Tue Oct 21, 2008 12:07 am

G'day everyone, i hope this topic hasn't already been written BUT if it has i apologise.

I need to purchase a video camera and i decided to go for a Mini-DV because of the 'no video footage compression' reason.
I'm after one with a mic jack input, good quality footage and hopefully that 3ccd (or whatever its called) quailty thingy. Not too big aswell.
SO as you can see i'm pretty naive about this stuff and need some advice and help.
I haven't had too much luck finding a camera which is what i'm after, maybe because i don't know 100% what i'm looking for.

The reason is for documenting purposes.

Cheers alls

naturally....just make sure they're over 18 and sign a release.

Yeah i'm happy to spend up to $1,500 if its an awesome quality camera. It needs to capture good quality footage.

Panasonic PV-GS5oo. It's a 3 CCD mini-dv, optical stabalizer, etc. bout 800-900 us $. I have the 320, great camera, but no longer available, i think. Try B and H Photo and Video in the US, don't know bout OZ.

The Canon HV20s are great and you get a decent HD picture and not shitty DV. You can get mid range HD capable cameras around that price the price you are looking for.
