Kel-tech RFB...the HOLY GRAIL of AWESOME!

Postby Woodsman » Mon Dec 01, 2008 9:18 pm

Specs:

-.308 (7.62 x 51) caliber
- 26" overall length
- 18" barrel
- 10 or 20 round mag (Uses FN FAL mags)
- 8.1 lbs.
- short-cycle gas-piston operated
- Picatinny rail runs across barrel; no built in sights

Placed above a FN FAL para rifle to compare overall length. This is the sweetest rifle I have seen in quite a while. 100% USA made too!
Rock on! beauty, huh?

Coolies, a bullpup that doesn't throw brass in your face when you try to shoot it lefty. A rail on the bottom for m203 or masterkey shotgun attachment would make it go from good to great though.

I always liked kel-tec, my friend bought the SU-16A and likes it a lot

The first Kel Tec I ever shot was a total piece of garbage but this was fifteen years ago. I have read on some sites that their customer service it top notch.

I have a suspicious feeling that they are headed right to the top. Currently, they are the third largest pistol mfgr in the U.S., and I have seen a huge leap in them thinking through their products. This one is a purpose engineered product. The purpose is to produce a .308 in the smallest compact non-NFA sized format legally available with a still reasonably sized barrel to give serious velocity and precision with.

Did you check out the video? That's what surprised me = the second shooter was doing double taps with a .308 and it really did not seem that he was getting a whole lot of recoil from the carbine.

Bullpup rifle designs always give me flashbacks to the *shudder* GP cadet rifle (a cobbled-together single-action L85A1, for the blissfully ignorant).

The SU-16A looks like a smart design.

Looks nice, it looks like a copy of Israel’s new issue rifle the Tavor

Personally I don’t like bullpup rifles cuz if you are hurt and have to fire with your weak arm you end up with spent rounds flying in front of your face, and cuz the action is right beside your ear its friggin loud (for some bullpups)

Funny that Kel-Tech is making ok guns now, they used to make cheap ass “Saturday night specials”. Good on them for going for quality over quantity

The beauty of this design is that the brass doesn't come out in front of your face - it is ejected through the barrel end of the weapon and thus much better for ambidextrous use. If you watch the video (link below the original post), you can see the brass being slowly and intermittently ejected - and the first thing I thought of is how a brass catcher might attach.

any word on if the way spent casings are ejected leads to any extraction failures?
when they ask how you feeling
you tell em you feeling like something important died screaming
you tell em you feeling like something even more important arrived breathing
something you should probably try feeding

This thing is a fairly new model. I'm sure reports will be written anytime.
