Why Not???

This really illustrates the fundamental difference in American and European philosophies.
I'm much partial to the looks of your original flat mag Saiga myself. I could go for one in .308. AKs look so much cooler than ARs, IMHO. There's just something Afghani rebel about them.
The '80s ones, I mean. When they were fighting against the bad guys.

It would annoy me to have such a beautiful device so impotently in my possession - like keeping a Bugatti in your garage. I certainly wouldn't legislate against it - I can't get enough of the State of Nature. Maybe 19D20 is fixing on something or maybe he's the gun version of a railway enthusiast.

I'm a hobbyist, with that said I have already used the first saiga on two local auto burglars trying to steal my truck & the 4 wheeler I need for work at around 0300. I now know who these fucktard gangbangers are and they know I know. Prior to this they were breaking into my and my neighbor's vehicles every 3-4 months. It's been a few years now and no more break ins.

My firearms to me are for historical/mechanical interest, sport and defense.

How much did you pay for them? I have been looking for a Saiga 12 but the best price I have seen at a gun show was $800 and a local gun shop had one for about the same. Seems way overpriced to me, I had (before the big O administration) seen them for round $450...

The first one was around $400.00 in 2001 when I purchased it.

We did a group buy and scored the IZ 109's for $660.00 each with one 5 rounder, one 12 rounder and the aftermarket stock.

Here are what I assume are wholesale prices from Atlantic Arms if the have them in stock. They are pretty rare at gunshows.

$559.00

Item# Saiga 12 Russian Shotgun IZ109

Saiga 12 ,Imported Russian Shotgun by Russian American Armory, semi auto AK style 12 gauge, built at the Russian Izmash Arsenal, featuring 5 round clip fed semi auto, side mount scope rail, all new construction, will shoot 2 ¾" and 3" magnum, designed for high reliability in harsh environments ,great for tactical and home defense. The removable mag allows for a quick change in Tactical or competitive shooting !! The have a 19 inch threaded barrel so you can add various chokes or muzzle brakes ..

I love AKs with wood furniture. And the lady is pretty too. Is that Fidel in the background? If I were to spend some time in the aforementioned Kamchatka region, would the Russians allow a foreigner to arm himself?

Fidel: ha ha. Anyway, I think those guns are awesome. I'm gonna stop by and say hi in a couple months Mr. Hitoru. I would like to see the gun, but not by the wrong end. :-)

Later,
Woodsy.

Had my Saiga 12 since 2003. Love it...even with my crapco saw grip and stock :). No muzzle brake, but with the first shot in the groin the rise brings the second one in the chest. Like you said- ends the 'banger issues. Russian-made psychological warfare at its finest :)
