FN FAL

Postby khalampre » Tue Oct 20, 2009 4:49 pm

With my return to the Republic of Texas in the near future I have started thinking about putting together an FN FAL or something very much like one. I don't give a rat's but about how "correct" it is (matching this or that). I just want something that shoots straight and will drop anything I point it at. Suggestions? If I put one together I may be looking at 19D20 for some help.

kits are kind of high now. Only place I see them is on gunbroker. I looked into it myself a while back. DSA receivers are the best to get, Last I checked Imbel receivers were insanely high.

Maybe JohnO will show some pics of his.

Right now your best bet is to find one of the early Century L1A1s, some were built on inch Imbel recievers and others were built on a Canadian reciever......................both are excellent recievers. Stay away from the later Century recievered mixed inch/metric guns,.....some were ok while most had problems.

Another option is to get one from DSA or check the Marketplace on the AK Files or gunbroker.

Here's my L1A1 built on an inch Imbel.

Jake and JohnO,

Any links would be appreciated. I used to be very much into guns, but a six year separation from firearms lessened my enthusiasm. If you come across any sales, group buys, etc let me know. I am not trying to be lazy. I just have a crap load of stuff to do in picking up and moving back to the US.

JohnO,

Those are some sharp looking rifles, and I would love to build any of them. This is kind of what I have in mind.

Here's a good place to start. Type FAL in the box.

Good! Some of JohnO's FAL pics.

I don't see group buys for kits anymore, cause they aren't really available at that level anymore. Best to use gunroker to find a kit.

Building seems to be quite a challenge with alot of tools. Will take some work, maybe best to buy one already built. But there is a mountain of info in falfiles.com message board. Or keep checking the JohnO's site market place for sale. Maybe somebody will want to sell a FAL.

Here is a guy's site I found that shows how he built one. Just to give you an idea of what it takes.

Replace the butt and the grip and this would be what I was looking for without having to chop the barrel.

Avoid the Hesse Reciever, stick with Imbel,Armscorp, DSA or Enterprise recievers.

Crap, I press the wrong button and my post was eaten by the interwebz.

Yeah, call Mike and ask how much he wants. All I want to do is build a short barrel, legal rifle. Something for shooting pigs and deer in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. I have scoped rifles for areas that don't have so much scrub/trees.

The AR that I had a friend buy for me ended up being the wrong one (bushmaster shipped the wrong rifle). I sold the rifle because it was a carbon 15 and not what I ordered. I was not able to return it because was a limited time offer for dealers. I just want something to make me feel better about not getting the right AR.

The "Golden Age" of FAL kits is over. Pressure from the UN and socialist fed agencies has had the desired effect. Any "parts kit" imported now cannot come with a barrel. Matching number kits in excellent condition are rare now-a-days and bring a premium price when found. The last receiver I purchased was $400, but it was a DSA Type 1 that went into a pristine STG58 kit I hide away several years ago. I've built two - an excellent Imbel on Imbel and the STG58. They are relatively easy to build, but you do need a receiver wrench to screw on the barrel.

Check Falfiles.com. Great site with anything you ever wanted to know about FALs. Check the "Marketplace". FALs for sale there.
