Poll: Most Used Swiss Army Knief Tool?

Postby EV » Sat Jan 16, 2010 7:03 pm

What it says above - which one do you use the most?

I'd have to go with scissors, though lately the really unhygenic toothpick is close in the running.

You forgot to add the Poll

I use the knife and bottle opener the most – I used the Saw once but gave up and just jumped on the branch until it broke

The pubic hair clipper.
Btw, it's knife, you knave. Learn how to spell.

Why would I waste time adding a poll? Then people would just be restricted to what my guesses of what the 5 or 6 most used tools are. Freedom, I say.

And to continue with the rhetorical questions, why don't they put the saw on a knife along with the corkscrew and scissors? Those seem to me the most desirable ones that aren't on almost every rig. Maybe the saw isn't that useful, but then, it probably wasn't built for trees...Some buddies and I built a cart once to drag shit through the woods, and as we were in Guatemala, we didn't have a saw handy to work on the little wooden parts. We borrowed the hotel's little tiny saw, which was way better than the machete, so I could see a SAK saw filling the same purpose.

Leathermen: yup, gotta get me one one of these days. SAKs seem pretty flimsy in comparison.

Leave my spelling alone you scapegrace.

I used to always lose knives, so I got into the habit of picking up Swiss Armies at Wal-Mart. I don't seem to lose them anymore; seems like I have red pocketknives laying around everywhere. I use the toothpick a lot. The tweezers are useless; they don't work. Scissors are great. And I use the small blade a lot because it seems like for day-to-day stuff, the big blade is kind of overkill. The bottle opener and Phillips screwdriver come in handy a lot, too.

I think my optimal Swiss Army knife would be the small keychain version, if only it had a bottle opener instead of a stupid little file. It already has blade, scissors, and toothpick and tweezers.

I haven't used a SAK in years...I don't like the geometry or the way they handle. I much prefer my Leatherman Wave.

I agree with redharen about the small SAK on the key chain being useful only with the inclusion of a bottle opener. I remedied this by keeping my HEST on my key chain.
