Heckler and Koch 416

If you like the 5.56 NATO cartridge, here's a lovely gem that if budget allowed should replace all NATO issued infantry carbines, such as the Frenchy FAMAS, the Limey SA80, or the Yankee M4.

It doesn't require lubrication, can operate for extended periods without cleaning or service, and is just as reliable as the AK, but of course more accurate. Doesn't foul up from sand, dirt, or mud.

Fully compatible with AR-16/M-16/M-4 lower receivers and magazines.

That's boolshit.

It's a machine with moving parts, It needs lubrication.

And It will choke on mud, dust, and sand just not as readily as the Stoner design.

HK = overpriced arms.

I can't afford one and I wouldn't buy one even if I had the money.

Negative. It is true that as with any machine with moving parts, it has failures, but significantly less than the weapons it is designed to replace. Furthermore, the parts are specially treated with a certain coating which allows them to function without gun oil.

Hk improved the Spanish CETME rifle (where the HK91 came from). They also made the English bullpup work better for them. So the 416 is their answer to the M4's multitude of problems (gas impingement gets them dirtier).
A gas piston Bushy or Colt would be just as reliable... run cooler and stay cleaner longer. If you have the $$$, the 416 upper would be pretty neat, but I'd rather spend my money on a different 5.56 platform rifle.

I bought the 416 stock for my YHM specter XL. Doesn't fit. Fits other Mil-Spec tubes, but not mine. WTF.

It's heavier and costs significantly more than the standard impingement system. In fact, the name alone makes it more expensive. My (manufacturer name deleted) AR goes "BANG" every time I pull the trigger. I have to clean it and lube it, inside and out.

As for lubrication, any firearm such as this is a machine. When machines are concerned, lube = good. Your life may very well depend on a well-maintained firearm. I mean, you put oil in your car don't you? You wouldn't try to cross a desert with your family accompanying you in a vehicle without oil in the motor, would you?
