Importing rifle into Australia? AI AW .308

Postby Aussie TJS » Fri May 14, 2010 4:32 am

Has anyone ever imported a rifle into Australia or exported one to Australia?
I figure the chance of someone doing this is low considering there arn't too many Aussies on the BFC.
Any info is good though.

I'm a sucker for the AI AW .308 and will eventually get one but can't get them in Australia. Apparently it was possible but no one bought them, everyone was going for the less cost rifles (with almost just as high quality level) which is fair enough as AI rifles arn't cheap. So all the dealers stopped getting them in. Can't even get the AI stock. So far i've had no luck finding anyone who will import any AI rifles or accessories in Australia.

I know there are cheaper options for a .308 such as buying the AI stock and sticking a rem700 in it and all the other options but i'm too in love with this rifle and for those gun nutters who obsess over a particular rifle you will understand that once you've got your eye on your own 'ultimate' rifle thats it, there is nothing that will break the curse/the love.

Thanks gun nuts

Australias got some of the best hunting and some of the worst gun laws in the world. A very frustrating combination.

If you have any nasty records it'll be pretty hard to own or purchase a rifle or firearm licence. Semi-automatics are illegal except for just a few for people who can hold a special permit for them e.g farmers with high vermin problems.
You'll never see an AR-15 anywhere in Australia or anything along those lines. Even a semi-auto 5shot magazine 22 rimfire is illegal. We owned one and the government crunched it on us after a massacre occured in Tasmania in the 90's
You need a licence for paintball guns and a registered area to use them, airsoft guns are illegal (that doesn't bother me at all seeing as airsoft is for social-retards), even spud/orange/lemon guns are illegal (That tube you spray deodorant in and ignite with a spark plug - ILLEGAL!!). Heaps of our gun and hunting laws are just stupid. Nothing but dumb. All thanks to the politicians and stupid Green party.

A great example of the no-sense laws we have: I am allowed to purchase the AW.308 but if i buy the AW.308 with the foldingstock the whole rifle becomes highly illegal. Why? Who knows.
