Hornady Critical Defense Ammo

I love this Ammo! Great Hollow Points that "wait" to expand until they hit "flesh". Who could ask for more?

Me, that's who.

I purchase those same Hornady XTPs bullets, cram 'em into new brass with a magnum primer and 20% more powder than the powder mfgr. "suggests" as a max load in the books and the end result is about 500 fps faster than "critical defense" specs...low standard deviation, hits the mark every time and they STILL expand properly without the jacket coming off - but transmit a lot more energy a lot deeper while doing it!

Actually, I went and looked at how fast hornady is loading their ammo - and mine is only 200 f/s faster...out of a 1.5" smaller barrel than they use. :-)

Sorry man, I only load for 10mm right now!

Retrieved 200 gr. XTP after being fired at 1250 fps (mean measured 15' past muzzle):

.40/10mm expanded to 0.66" on average through water-filled milk jugs.

People focus too much on Ammo, Gear, Caliber, Gun Brand, ect...

A .38 with wadcutters is deadlier in the hands of a skilled shooter than a .45 Glock in the hands of someone with great ammo who rarely trains

And no matter the caliber or gun it will not make you penis any bigger

No brainer.

Personally, I just went with 10mm so I could be legal to hunt elk with it in Colorado. It is not legal to hunt elk with a .38 using wadcutters.

I shot a .38 the other day w/ a 6" S&W...milk jug was an easy target at 50y. Probably could have hit positioned clays at that distance - not sure if the bullet would break them though. LOL!

Thats a damn good load. I wish they would make the 9mms in 124 grain.

Back in the day, I used to epoxy BBs into my HPs. No longer!
