Who needs a .45, a .22 is going to put any unarmoured Homo sapiens in the dirt. Obviously if you start hitting the toes and work inwards it will take longer. Every so often Pelton posts stuff that makes no sense. This is one of those occasions, where his mythos overtakes his brain.

au contraire. I speak the truth, While you are plinking away at the 12 year old driven by anger and stupidity, I deal the in currency of stopping many people from doing many things. Guns aren't really on the radar. Force multiplier and all that.

Spreading fiction is a well known and very effective force multiplier, it is used equally by warriors and media.

It never takes long for an online conversation on stopping power to stray into the esoteric.

stopping power = distance traveled by vehicle after applying brakes. Proper pad installation and resurfacing of rotors when new pads are installed greatly increase your stopping power.

I'd choose 9mm if I were going for a solely defensive pistol caliber.

Why? most popular pistol cartridge throughout the world = lots available ammo in more places.

Plus, it is lighter to carry.
It can be chambered in a smaller framed pistol.
There are bonded ammo choices for the caliber.
It will work just as well as any of the other reasonable cartridges with the right bullet.
It's cheaper.
It can penetrate armor easily with tungsten carbide core bullets.
---------------------------------------------------

Guns aren't necessary. It is wasteful to expend lead and copper down range at a target. The amount of fossil fuels required to mine and transfer high density metals is ridiculous - and those are not replaceable resources. It's a hell of a lot easier just to communicate. Most people (not all) don't want to shoot another person. If they want to shoot you and they know what they are doing, no gun is going to protect you anyway. Movement might however.

All that being said, I enjoy shooting. .22s are my favorite, since they are cheap, work well on small game and nobody wants to be shot by one.

Is the superbowl a breakfast cereal?
Is a commercial a girlfriend you pay for?

All I know is that if I point a gun at you you're going to die, even if i have to beat you to death with it....whatever the caliber

All I know is what I've witnessed.
6'3" 200+lbs fellow Cav Trooper shot point blank in the palm of the hand with a .45. It came out his elbow ,spinning him around 180* and that put him on the ground instantly. That pretty much took all the fight out of him for awhile.

Stopping power? I've seen guys stopped with a punch, from a guy called "one-punch"

If Hinckley Jr had been packing a .44 he would've missed Reagan completely, instead the .22 Rick O'Shayed off the armour and winged the President.

Horses for courses. Still, I'd rather take a dig off one-punch than a .22 round in the boat race

Cheers
