Land Rover is dead to me

Time is now to buy your Defender or early model Disco because this vomitous mess is what's coming for the "Defender." I guess they have until 2015 to fix the design...

LR has gone through German (BMW) and American (Ford) hands but this last travesty can only be a reflection of it latest owners, India (Tata). No one cares what they do with the yuppie Range Rovers and if this was the 2015 concept Freelander no one would give a fuck. But the Defender with low profile tires? Go to hell Tata.

You gotta be joking! They only had 63 years to come up with a new design and look what they chose; mini meets nissan puke. Went to the factory some 25 years ago and they were celebrating that it only took 18 months to design a wind up window for the 110.

That was my first impression as well, it looks like an FJ knock-off. TATA makes their living from copying other engineer's designs, all of their class 8 stuff is a direct rip- off of Volvo class 8 stuff.

It looks like the bastard child of a FJ Cruiser and a Nissan Cube.

At least the FJ Cruiser is a 4Runner/Surf underneath (engine, transmission, drivertrain etc) so it can be modified using an almost infinite array of common aftermarket parts.

naw, dude, that's wigger gangster, maybe. gangsta would be straight wood-grain interior. all else it needs is some spinners, a stripper with a big booty in the back, and a secret compartment accessible to the driver.

That's disgusting. But really it's mainly the stupid rims plus the "Freelander Factor". Otherwise, it's interesting to see them go SWB, particularly while Jeep is doing the opposite. The front and rear shackles and integral winch (and what looks like a skid plate) are intriguing although it's hard to get excited about utilitarian features when they come in such a fragile-looking plastic blister pack. Also this nose-down look gives us a crappy approach angle which screams form over function. Decent departure angle though. Which bits of the hard top come off? What's the deal with that hexagonal stuff in the back?

Lest we forget, this is what a proper factory bumper looks like; a steel beam that you can replace with fancy crap if you really want to:

In other Landie news, I was parked outside Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in central Taipei this afternoon (see image below, round the back by the conifers) alongside a tricked-out and lovingly abused Camel Trophy Disco, and an immaculate 110. Most unusual in a Jeep country. Was the Father of the Nation a secret Landie fan? If so I hope my YJ did not dishonor his memory.

You could live with the Posh Spice Range Rover, but this is just too much ?

(Yes, my number of posts is, at this moment: 1)
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Best thing ever made with a Landrover: 4x 110 axles, 2 transfer boxes and a V8. From what I remember of it it had variable front and rear steering. Image

Looks cool, but best for what? If you wanted a 8x8 medium or heavy utility design there is much better engine and axle combos than the 110's.

Or you could just buy a perentie variant.
