My grandfather used to drive one of these around town trying to impress girls, it didn't work.

Can one of you guys pop the clutch and tear away from a light for me today? I am going into loud pedal withdraw. I just need 15 minutes in something front engined rear drive. A bit of read line and I start to smile.

My supercharged V8 Toyota Tundra does amazing burnouts. I'll see if I can fit one in.

Loud Pedal
For some a thrill is realized by skydiving, for others is is reached by going abroad, shooting guns, or putting themselves in harms way. I have done a bit of all of these things to one degree or another in the past, but my fix is completely different.

That same high can be had more often by hooning the crap out of one of my car. Some cares are more fun than others, but they all have their own charter and ability to flatter the driver. I am lucky enough to live close to an EPIC eleven mile loop that is festooned with sharp left and rights & some sweeping semi-banked cures. When things get bad, I need a boost, or just for a grin I drop the top on my little MX5 (soon to be a Lotus 7 clone) and just cane the hell out of the thing.

Ringing the last little bit of power out of a gear set is an absolute joy. Running at a corner at full chat and braking as late and as hard as I dare while blipping the throttle in order to double de-clutch for that silky smooth down shift, that is when you know you are alive. Then it is powering through the corner in the gear selected through perfect intuition while keeping the rear set of rubber on the verge of breaking loose is your reward for the time spent learning how to really drive.

Written in a meeting where I was dreaming of mechanical perfection.

What's your home state? A seven would be a hell of a track car and it sounds like you'd enjoy that sort of thing.

Bryan, Texas for at least another 2 years. Then it is off to find a grown up job. The 7 will be my "getting in a lot of trouble" car. I sourced a 1.6, but now I want a turbo 1.8 as a donor. I cannot wait to get back and start building.

There are a number of Road courses in Texas. There's also National Auto Sport Association.

The cool thing is that there is a track about 5 miles from my house. I just need to build the 7 to spec and it is on.

I'm not really a proper reporter, due to the chronic lack of discipline, negligible attention span, and a certain juvenile difficulty taking serious things seriously.
