Ultracompact "Pocket Pistol"

Postby Skirita » Tue May 28, 2013 1:32 pm

Ever since Skiritasdottir arrived, I've felt this primal obligation to EDC. I'm already licensed for it, but I never do because even a subcompact Glock 26 isn't concealable on my person. The problem is that I don't have a large frame, I'm not fat, I don't wear baggy clothes and I live in Miami where it's too hot for even jeans or a light jacket most of the year. The goal here is usually to wear as little as possible (shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, sandals), and because we have no real public transportation options and a dominant nouveau rich Latin American culture that thinks all bicyclists are peasants (who, by virtue of their lowly station, should be actively targeted by SUVs), I drive more than I'd like to and thus don't have any reason to carry a laptop bag everywhere like I did when I lived in NYC.

So, having accepted that 9mm might be too large for me to carry, I've been looking at smaller caliber "pocket pistols." I'm willing to sacrifice stopping power for concealability to a reasonable extent. I need something thinner than the Glock. What can I fit in a cargo pocket? (The 26 fits but barely, and it's pretty obvious what's in there because the frame is pretty thick.) Any recommendations?

This is a useful chart of small pistols, though probably not completely up to date: http://www.smallestguns.com/

Walther PPS. Have one. Love it. Doesn't print on my 175lb, 12% BF frame either.
I am the object of criticism around the world. But I think that since I am being discussed, then I am on the right track.

They're for family protection, hunting dangerous and delicious animals, and keeping the King of England out your face.

A Beretta bobcat is a great little gun that works well in a place like Florida.

Believe it or not lately I am carrying a Beretta Jetfire in .25 ACP every day. Sometimes it's backup to something larger (.38/.357 snubbie or a full sized Glock 9mm) but often it's the only piece I can pack without looking like I'm trying to show off. I'm usually in Phoenix these days, so we have a similar summertime problem with temperatures and wardrobe, and one can't always wear a baggy untucked shirt for cover. I know somebody will have to jump on and make some crack about the ineffective cartridge but I can carry this with 9 rounds plus a spare magazine, a knife, and multiple black belts. In higher risk environments I would prefer the other options for primary but this will do the job.
