Tuesday July 5, 22:48 Singapore's Tiger Air To Start Cambodia Flights Soon

SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Singapore Airlines Ltd.'s (S55.SG) budget affiliate Tiger Airways Tuesday said it expects to expand operations by starting daily flights to Cambodia soon.

"This is an important development in the expansion of our regional route network as it gives us more efficiency in the use of our aircraft which will enable us to continue offering the lowest fares," Tiger's Chief Executive Tony Davis said in a statement.

The airline currently flies to Thailand, Vietnam, Macau, the Philippines and Indonesia "and the addition of Cambodia to our list of destinations will expand our paw prints over more of Asia," Davis added.
Tiger is currently awaiting approval from the Cambodian authorities.

Tiger is one of three Singapore-based budget airlines that started operations last year to capture a slice of the economy travel market.
Soaring fuel costs and intense competition, however, have prevented the carriers from achieving break-even in the first year and persuaded Valuair Ltd. and Qantas Airways Ltd. (QAN.AU) affiliate Jetstar Asia to discuss a possible merger which may herald consolidation in the industry.
