I'm spending about 10 hours there on March 25 on my way to Nepal. Anyone had hassles with getting visas at the airport. Anything to do in Doha other than shake a placard at Al-Geezera? tx

Not really much to do outside of hitting a bar and getting drunk or going to a shopping mall

Go to any shopping mall in the US and take a pik - same

One thing that is sort of cool - you can go the the waterfront and see traditional Arab boats being built

Some marauding vikings would have made it more interesting.

Vikings, is there anything they can't make more interesting?

The Museum of Islamic Art is worth a look - right on the corniche. The Souq is extremely dull, although there are some decent restaurants there (Souq Waqif).

Are they worth it? I have considered going there because the photos make it seem like one of the most peaceful and beautiful places on Earth. I love that kind of landscape. They are quite out of the way though and I might be able to get a similar experience in Iceland or Greenland.

I heard the only way to get there now besides flying is taking a ferry from Denmark? (No service anymore from Iceland or Norway).

I thought they were neat, sorta like Ireland on steroids. Its neat that hey have their own language, related to Old Norse. If you go be prepared for rain. I thought that the ferry form the Shetlands was still running but I could be wrong.
