I was browsing the travel forum and noticed that you had asked me about my Haiti trip... In terms of sheer dysfunction and backwardness, I've never seen anyplace like it. You can't go anywhere without worrying about getting mugged or murdered, infrastructure has collapsed outside of secure hotel compounds, you see things like a guy pulling a dead rat out of a pile of garbage and consuming it right by the side of the street, you see cemeteries where the dead have been unceremoniously yanked out of tombs and dumped on the ground so that the living might occupy the tombs, you see overcrowded street markets where you can literally buy anything, etc.
In other words, it was a great trip...
