Reputed Farsi language schools outside US?

Postby seannomadic » Sun Apr 10, 2011 12:58 pm

After taking an interest in arabic, and learning a bit, then pulled away by work, and boss's lack of understanding as to why I would want to spend a month in Cairo sweating out Arabic lessons.

I've now decided that I would like to learn Farsi through intensive workshops/tutoring for the purposes of getting around, and gaining access for photography and film making.

Any assistance in this matter is appreciated.

The School of Oriental and African Studies - University of London

http://www.soas.ac.uk/

but I'm guessing this wasn't quite what you had in mind.

We trawled around learning Arabic a while back - some of the stuff in that thread might be applicable

Otherwise the questions appears to be one of location, time and the course start / end date as opposed to about reputation because the number of institutions which offer short courses in Farsi is very limited.

Apparently this place do it but I can't be bothered to surf their website and check

http://www.iaeste.tj/

as does this place

http://www.studyiniran.ir/html/persian_courses_in_iran.html

with reviews here

but if you want to find somewhere decent you should probably ask Universities who teach it where they send their exchange students.

famous one located in tehran, affiliated with university of tehran

dehkhoda institute/international center for persian studies

http://icps.ut.ac.ir/en/index.htm

internationl students who come to university of tehran however attend another school specifically for learning farsi for academic study at the institution. its my understanding many universities which have sizable international student populations have their own in-house programs not open to short-term coursework.

as i recall, university of esfahan offered short term farsi courses to international students:

just try the web pages of major iranian universities. university web site info in iran, esp the english version pages, is usually pretty outdated. Find email addresses and phone numbers and get to work. A little effort and you should be able to get a hold of someone who knows about current programs in iran and the current status of successfully getting student visas for foreign nationals from a given country (e.g. america) for a given program.
