Just back from PUNTLAND

Postby Ozymandias » Sun Apr 24, 2011 10:53 am

Hello everyone, I'm just back from a fortnight trip around Somaliland and Puntland, with a cheeky dip into Somalia at Galkaicyo (or Galkaio).

I got my $2 haircut in Djibouti City. There are barbers on every street corner, and they all seem to be from India!

Possibly, but only if I can't sell the story to the mainstream media. Guns for hire aren't cheap!

That's awesome. So how did you find bodyguards, and how much did they charge? How much was the whole trip?

Bodyguards are regular Somali military. Couple of them are Mogadishu veterans. They were around $10 a day each, plus accommodation and food etc. Whole trip was very expensive. Local officials see white people in Somalia with dollar signs above their heads...

Bump!

Hi guys, allow me to introduce myself as this is my first post here. My name is Mark Zolo and I'm trying to travel to every country in the world. Some of you may know me through my blog (and book), Naughty Nomad.

Anyway, I'm on my way to Somalia in Feburary but I can't find information on getting a visa for Puntland... May I ask how did you go about it? Was it just a regular Somalia visa?

Uh. After reading the author's bigoted, ignorant, racist, immature, rambling, badly written rants on http://www.grahamdavidhughes.com I thought the genre of all-countries-of-the world-traveller blogs couldn't sink further. Then I saw you site. I went no further than the chapter "The Girls" (of Baku) on your front page. You should hook up with JITW on the BFC here if you know what I mean.

I have only ever been to Somaliland and for all I know the three Somalias (proper, SL, Puntland) all have separate and distinct visa schemes. Hope that the Thorn Tree rises from the ashes and ask there.
