Himba woman and Herrero woman - these two were walking in a small village called Purros - my guide, who speaks their language, asked me for my camera and took this picture. I think he was very amused to see these two out on a stroll together. The Himba still live a traditional herder lifestyle and the Herrero have become more settled. The dress the woman on the right is wearing is a remnant of the Victorian era influence of German clergy. The headdress represents the horns of a cow. The Himba women mix powdered ochre with fat and use that on their skin, which gives them that rich bronze sheen to their skin - it also gets on everything they own and use - so it results in a monochromatic color scheme for their fashion.
