Ecuador some pics

Postby ReptilianKittenEater » Mon Jan 30, 2012 4:24 am

Here are some pics, more on the flickr link. The fascists at Yahoo don't allow image links.

Basically climbed for about 8 or 9 days doing Cotopaxi and some lower peaks. Rucu Pichincha was easy to get to and fun so I ended up doing that a couple of times. Also went to a cloud forest reserve for a few days and did some mountian biking.

Thanks! Was there about 2.5 weeks. Weather was kinda shit, went when it was supposed to be the dry season and it was wetter than the wet season.

Thanks for pics, looks great! That's a serious hike I hear, were there any technical areas? And I imagine acclimatization takes a few days or so.

Thanks! Needed technical gear for Cotopaxi, I went up Illiniza Norte in hiking boots which was a little dicey as there was a foot plus of snow on a steep rocky climb. The rest were simply day hikes. I was there 8 days before doing Cotopaxi so no real altitude problems.

Yeah, As long as your feet don't get wet! I paid 250 bucks for some fancy hiking boots to climb el misti in peru. Not only did I not need them, they broke after the first day, could have gone up in tennis shoes. The only challenge of that hike was I didn't sleep a wink for 3 days straight before ascending, was literraly having microsleeps while pushing towards the summit.
Being that we're pretty much neighbours, have you done any nearby climbs like washington or Mt katahdin in Maine?

Funny you should bring up Mt Katadin, a friend of mine did it in his youth and keeps on jabbing me about it. I hope to get around some time. I peak I want to bag is Mt Shasta. How about you?

I'm near the Airidonacks (Lake George) in June for a century ride so I may see if there are any nearby peaks that can be done in a day.

Wet and dry season have been fucked in Central America for the past two years. Guess Ecuador is screwy, too. I blame Al Gore.

Great pics though!!!!

The locals blamed La Nina, although we have not had a La Nina winter in Canada. Its always ominous when the locals say "I've never seen snow here...."

Pls post pics when you go to Colombia!
