I saw this ad, loved it, and thought of y'all at the BFC.
*Men Wanted*
*"For hazardous journey, small wages, bitter cold, long months of
complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful, honor and
recognition in case of success."*
***
This small advertisement was the beginning of one of the most heroic
expeditions in history. Through it, Sir Ernest Shackleton recruited a
team to cross the Antarctic, a team that would endure unbelievable
difficulties and yet survive. Shackleton's bravery and leadership is
admired and studied even today.
We have an exciting program on Friday, February 22 to permit you to
experience the challenge faced by Sir Ernest Shackleton's Expedition in 1914,
and then we'll meet the team who are going next year to ski those 1,700 miles
across the very path planned by that Expedition.
The team is determined to complete the mission that Shackleton once set out to
achieve, this time to cross Antarctica by ski and kite ski, from the Weddell Sea
to the Ross Sea via the South Pole. Shackleton viewed his continent-crossing
expedition as the last great polar journey after Roald Amundsen and Robert Scott
conquered the South Pole in 1911-1912.
*Please join us for dinner to meet three remarkable adventurers.*
