Mauritania - richat

Postby rawalker » Fri Aug 12, 2016 9:50 am

I am thinking of visiting the Richat Structure/ Eye of the Sahara. Anyone else been there and can offer some tips? I'm curious about the actual situation in Mauritania. I'm getting a mixxed impression, some saying not to leave Nouakchott really and getting a 50/50 impression from other sources. Thanks.

I was in Nouakchott in the spring, seemed alright but I went up the coast from there, not inland at all.

Very dated no doubt but Palin wrote a great book about the area.

I have spent a lot of time travelling around Mauritania, including the area around Richat. There is no danger unless you do something stupid; if you are interested I can give you info on travel and a good guide.
