Saudi Censorship

Postby Darcy » Wed Nov 16, 2016 10:55 am

My Kazakhstan gig was cut short so I'm now headed to Riyadh to fly around some VIPs for a few months (waiting on confirmation - just after buying a shitload of arctic gear for an Iqaluit job that fell through). I doubt I'll be able to get Netflix but I'm wondering about downloading movies/tv shows on iTunes or having them on my hard drive. Any advice here would be appreciated.

The big concern for me is books; I read ebooks on Kindle (got a Kindle Reader and the app on iPad, not sure which I'll take). Will there be any issue with books I have loaded? Generally this type of flying has tons of downtime and waiting around so I'll have quite a slew of novels loaded.

Any issue having my DPx HEST folder in my checked luggage?

Use TOR Browser to download and look at porn in Saudi. Torrents seem to work out too.

Thanks. I was wondering if they go through computers, etc on arrival? Not that I'd try to get any porn into the country but I'm wondering if the sexy scene in 3 Days of the Condor or Marla and Tyler going at it in Fight Club would raise eyebrows? That sort of stuff. Wondering how restrictive they are. Most of my travels have been in Africa and South America, it'll be my first time in this neck of the woods (lived in Northern Turkey for a year and Azerbaijan almost 20 years ago but this is my first foray into the Gulf region).

Found this list of prohibited items, hence my concern;

Games of gambling (chess, dice, backgammon, poker chips, roulette etc.)

- Chess on my iPad?

All weapons and firearms (real or ornamental), including guns, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, spears and other edged weapons, etc. (owner subject to investigation, fines, and/or imprisonment)

- my HEST folder? I'm a helicopter pilot so its considered survival gear, I haven't flown without a knife in over 30 years?

All Pornographic material such as books, DVD’s, magazines etc. *Women’s Fashion magazines with images of models in revealing clothing might be confiscated.
Politically sensitive material
Articles and books contrary to Muslim or Saudi Arabian beliefs or morality will not be allowed into the country

-got a shit load of book and movies on my iPad and laptop - no porn though

I consider those words must be harmful to all of Muslims.

I am not a Muslim, yet would not say that.
